Carlos Alcaraz defeated Daniil Medvedev in the Indian Wells final, and in doing so, he moved back to No. 1 ahead of the start of the 38th edition of the Miami Open. By looking at the odds, you can see immediately that Alcaraz is expected to be once again the protagonist; after all, he is the defending champion here. In the last edition, he made history at this tournament by becoming the youngest champion with a win over Casper Ruud in the final.
Things haven’t always gone so smoothly for the Spaniard this season, as he had to rest recently due to injuries, yet it will take a lot to defeat the 19-year-old in Miami this week. Medvedev, who was defeated in the Indian Wells, will surely be hungry for revenge here, and with the remaining members of the top 10 being rather out of form or inconsistent, it is difficult to look at anyone else than these two in the outright market.

The likes of Stefanos Tsitsipas and Casper Ruud have both been struggling with conditions here and were already out before the second week of the Indian Wells. We expected more from Tsitsipas though, and we would be pretty surprised if he did not improve here after what he was able to do in Australia at the beginning of the year. As far as the Norwegian is concerned, he has been pretty inconsistent and generally delivered below expectations.
A player to consider but who doesn’t have what it takes to go all the way is Jannik Sinner, who is close to re-entering the top 10. The Italian couldn’t cope with Alcaraz in Indian Wells, but the slick surface of the Hard Rock Stadium should suit his style. The Italian has reached a final in similar conditions and, at 11/1, makes appeals, especially if world No. 1 Alcaraz feels a bit of fatigue or has some injury concerns.
If you are looking for a player to back now and cash out before the start of the second half of the tournament, I would suggest going with Alexandar Zverev. The German is back on form and was narrowly defeated in a thrilling match against Medvedev in Indian Wells. With a decent draw, he could be a serious contender and go on a deep run.
