It will be an intriguing affair as while Oliver Glasner’s men are going through a period of inconsistent results, Bochum will head to the Deutsche Bank Park in high spirits after two consecutive wins that have lifted them out of the relegation zone, four points above Hertha Berlin, who occupy the last playout/playoff relegation spot.

Even though recent results could mean an upset here, we have to remember that Bochum have been pretty bad on the road this season, losing 11 of their 13 Bundesliga games away from home. Die Adler cannot afford to drop any more points if they want to close the gap on the top four positions, and I expect them to deliver against a resurgent Thomas Letsch’s side.
A defeat for the visitors won’t be the end of the world either, since they have now moved to a ‘relatively’ safe area, four points above the relegation zone, and they will know that permanence in the league will mostly depend on their home games.
On that note, they might have already set their minds to next weekend, when Die Unabsteigbaren will host rock-bottom Stuttgart at the Vonovia-Ruhrstadion. A win in that match would almost certainly secure their survival, regardless of what happens on Friday night.
Their last win over FC Koln was only their second away win on the road, where they have scored just 9 goals in 13 matches. Bochum should play with a defensive asset and a 4-5-1 formation, hoping that Philipp Hofmann, their only striker, can catch the visitors in a counterattack. There is clearly work that needs to be done in that department as Die Adler have conceded in all their last seven games, so it won’t be a surprise to see a goal being scored by the visitors in what is likely to be a high-scoring affair with the hosts that are lining up with a 3-4-1-2 formation.

After playing with France against Ireland in the last international break, Randal Kolo Muani will be back in action in the Bundesliga, and he is a player to keep very close tabs on against Bochum. He has been playing very well for Frankfurt this season. In 35 games in all competitions, he has scored 16 goals and set up 14 others. In the Bundesliga, he is averaging 2.1 shots per game, 0.9 shots on target per game, and the Expected Goal (xG) is 8.95.
He will be keen to cause some damage to Bochum’s backline and put himself even more in the spotlight, with rumours of a possible move to Manchester United in the summer. He is available at 9/2 with William Hill to score first (boosted from 16/5), and that looks like great value to me.

I think Frankfurt will be in charge of this game. They will also benefit from the international break, which gave them time to get back on track after a busy and hard time. Having said that, I don’t expect their performance to be spotless, and they might leak a goal here.
Bochum have made clear improvements since former Vitesse Arnhem boss Letsch took over from Thomas Reis and are now playing with more confidence even on the road, as proven by the win over Koln. This should be enough to find a consolation goal against a defence that has conceded consistently over the last three games.
