The first thing to consider when betting on the ATP Houston is that, despite being played on clay, it is not the same as its European equivalent. The pace is a lot faster here, and you can appreciate this if you see the winners in recent years, as we have the likes of Reilly Opelka, John Isner, and Ivo Karlovic. All are big serving players, and this is why we need to focus our attention on players that do well on hard courts and not on those that perform well on clay on the Mediterranean shores.
Speaking of Isner, he looks pretty valuable at 9/1, and he might fancy his chances of lifting this trophy again after reaching three finals, including in the last edition. Surely one to consider, but realistically, he is now 37 years old, and even if he made the Dallas final in February, he is starting to struggle and comes here on the back of three first-round eliminations. In these four consecutive defeats, he won just one of six tie-breaks, so clearly his condition is on the decline.
Another interesting player is Aleksandar Kovacevic, who has won two Challenger titles on hard courts in recent weeks, and he is the type of player that could do well in this tournament. He can be backed at 40/1, and even if the price looks interesting, he hasn’t got enough experience on clay to really go all the way here, so although he is someone to have on the radar, it is probably not for now.

Our main pick is therefore Cristian Garin, who has been in very good form in recent weeks, and the move to ‘this’ clay could help him to keep the momentum going. The Chilean didn’t start the year impressively, but his form started to pick up on the hardcourts of Indian Wells and Miami. During the ‘Sunshine Double’ events, Garin performed very well with several wins, including the one over Casper Ruud in Indian Wells. He also pushed Stefanos Tsitsipas to the final set in Miami, and overall, if we include the qualifying, he has won a total of nine matches.
This tournament was cancelled in both 2020 and 2021, but Garin won the title in 2019 and reached the semifinals last year, despite coming back from injury. He likes the fast clay conditions in Houston, and at 17/2, it looks like a very interesting proposition.

The ATP Estoril Open will take place on clay, and our suggestion for this tournament is to back Hubert Hurkacz to lift the title, which is available at 5/1 at the moment of writing.

The Pole hasn’t had a great time so far this season, as he was eliminated early in both the Indian Wells and Miami Open, but this is a tournament that is a lot closer to his skills. He will be pretty fresh as he had to sit out for most of the previous events and motivated to turn things around, so he looks like a decent bet.

The ATP Grand Prix Hassan II in Marrakech, Morocco, is the only tour-level event that is played in Africa. For the 37th edition, we have a field of 28 players, seven of whom are in the top 50. Looking at the betting market, it is the Italian Lorenzo Musetti who is the top seed, but it is difficult to justify such a short price considering that he has won just once in the last eight matches, despite the fact that he should like these conditions.
