Real Sociedad Looking To Cement Their Claim For A Champions League spot

Key Stats
– Real Sociedad boasts an unbeaten record in their last seven La Liga home matches.
– Almeria shares the league’s worst away record, amassing only seven points on the road.
– Real Sociedad have kept 14 clean sheets this season, compared to Almeria’s paltry three.

As the La Liga season hurtles towards its conclusion, every match carries significant weight, none more so than the upcoming clash between Real Sociedad and Almeria on Tuesday night. Both teams are looking to strengthen their respective positions; Sociedad to secure a coveted Champions League spot, and Almeria to stave off relegation.

Real Sociedad’s Resurgence

Real Sociedad have recently hit a rich vein of form, with a superb run of four victories in their last six league games. Their latest success was a headline-grabbing triumph over reigning champions Barcelona at Camp Nou, with Mikel Merino and Alexander Sorloth finding the back of the net.

Now holding the fourth spot in the table, five points clear of Villarreal in fifth, Sociedad are on the cusp of securing Champions League football next season. Victory over Almeria would further strengthen their position, moving them eight points clear with just two fixtures remaining. The team, last seen in the top four in 2013, is on the brink of a significant achievement under the guidance of Imanol Alguacil.

Almeria’s Survival Struggle

On the other end of the spectrum, Almeria finds itself embroiled in a fierce relegation battle. A commendable 3-0 victory over Mallorca recently propelled them to the 13th position, yet their situation remains precarious. They are just four points clear of the dreaded 18th spot, currently occupied by Real Valladolid.

Almeria’s return to the top-flight football has been a mixed bag; they’ve amassed an impressive 32 points from 18 home games, but their away record tells a different story. With a meagre seven points on the road, they share the dubious distinction of having the worst away record in the league alongside Elche.

A Closer Look at the Matchup

Turning our attention to the upcoming match, both sides will have to navigate injuries and potential changes to their line-ups. For Sociedad, the absence of players such as David Silva and Brais Mendez due to injury means that we may see the likes of Takefusa Kubo and Mikel Oyarzabal step up in the attacking third.

Almeria too, are grappling with injury issues, with players like Kaiky and Martin Svidersky sidelined. Despite these constraints, the visitors can take heart from Lazaro’s stellar performance against Mallorca, where he notched up a hat-trick.

Unveiling the Strategies: Team Performance

Real Sociedad’s attacking prowess has been on display throughout the season, notching up an average of 1.3 goals per game. With 25 goals from the left foot and 12 from the right, their versatility up front is evident. Moreover, their record of creating 2.7 big chances per game is worth noting.

On the defensive end, they’ve averaged 0.9 goals conceded per game, reinforcing their reputation for solid defence. Their impressive defensive record, which includes 14 clean sheets, owes much to their successful tackling strategy (17.6 tackles per game) and solid clearances (16.1 per game).

Almeria, on the other hand, shares the same goals per game average as Real Sociedad but struggles in their defensive duties, conceding an average of 1.7 goals per game. Their lower tackling average (14.8 tackles per game) and fewer clean sheets (3) serve to further highlight their defensive shortcomings.

Predicting the Outcome
Drawing from the rich statistical data, we expect Real Sociedad, unbeaten in their last seven La Liga home matches, to capitalise on Almeria’s struggling away form. Despite some key injuries, Sociedad’s strength in depth, coupled with their superior ball possession (54.5% vs. Almeria’s 45.6%) and defensive solidity (14 clean sheets vs. Almeria’s 3), should prove decisive.

With that in mind, we predict Real Sociedad to triumph with a 2-0 scoreline, replicating their victory in the reverse fixture earlier this season. A win with a 1-goal handicap (-1) for Real Sociedad appears to be a solid prediction considering their recent form and Almeria’s dismal away record.
