As the international break looms, La Liga offers one last tantalising match-up. Barcelona, reinvigorated and on a quest to string together their third consecutive win, lock horns with Osasuna, keen to recover from a European heartbreak.
Barcelona’s Climb to Dominance
The Catalan giants find themselves in a favourable position, having amassed seven points from their initial trio of games, placing them fourth on the league ladder. They began the season on a subdued note, with a stalemate against Getafe. However, the tide quickly shifted. Xavi’s men followed that up with stellar victories against both Cadiz and Villarreal, with the latter being a breathtaking seven-goal saga. Leading by two goals in the opening quarter of an hour thanks to strikes from Gavi and Frenkie de Jong, they momentarily lost their grip, trailing the Yellow Submarine post the halfway mark. Yet, the indomitable spirit of the Blaugrana shone through, as Ferran Torres levelled the score, and Robert Lewandowski clinched the decisive goal.

It’s no secret that Barcelona clinched the La Liga title last season with an impressive 10-point gap over arch-rivals Real Madrid. However, given the financial tribulations they faced this summer, replicating such dominance might be a tall order. Nonetheless, the acquisition of Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix on loan deals promises to infuse fresh vigour into a squad seeking rejuvenation.
Osasuna’s Bid to Bounce Back
Occupying the seventh spot, Osasuna have not been slouches either. Their campaign kicked off positively with a win against Celta Vigo. But, Athletic Bilbao halted their momentum with a 2-0 defeat at Osasuna’s fortress. Undeterred, the team, under Jagoba Arrasate, rallied back and clinched a nail-biting victory against Valencia, thanks to Nacho Vidal’s last-gasp heroics.
Yet, a dark cloud overshadows their recent league endeavours. Their European aspirations were dashed in a bitter 4-3 aggregate defeat to Club Brugge, meaning they won’t be gracing the group stages of the Europa Conference League. History doesn’t favour them either. The Rojillos have been on the losing side in their past three league encounters with Barcelona, and their last home triumph against the Catalans dates back to a chilly February evening in 2012.
Predictions
1. Win-Draw-Away Market: Given their recent form and the rejuvenation under Xavi, Barcelona seem poised for a win. Moreover, Osasuna’s European hangover might play a part. Prediction: Barcelona to win.
2. Correct Score Prediction: Considering the attacking prowess both sides have shown, a 3-1 win in favour of Barcelona seems plausible. They’ve netted seven in their past two games and Osasuna have managed four.
