Manchester United vs Sevilla Predictions

Key Stats
– Man Utd have won 21 wins in the last 24 home matches.
– Sevilla have lost five of their last seven away matches.
– Sevilla have won the Europa League six times since 2006.

Manchester United vs Sevilla Predictions

Manchester United are favourites in the Europa League after dominating Barcelona, but now they have to face Sevilla, who have been serial tournament winners, in this semi-final tie. Ten Hag has done well this season so far, but with so many games played, things are starting to look a bit concerning on the injury front, with star Marcus Rashford paying the price.

Ten Hag will rather not risk Rashford for this clash if he is not completely fit, and his absence would give confidence to a Sevilla side who have a fantastic record in the Europa League, having won the tournament six times since 2006.

It has been a disappointing domestic season for the Spaniards who sacked Jorge Sampaoli last month, but, as they have done other times, they can still salvage this campaign by winning another European title under new coach Jose Luis Mendilibar.

The odds are clearly in favour of Manchester United qualifying, with Sevilla looking overpriced to cause an upset.

Manchester United vs Sevilla Main Betting Tip: Draw – Man Utd -1

Interestingly, Sevilla have yet to taste defeat in three European matches with Manchester United, as they prevailed in the Europa League semi-final three years ago and also in the Champions League last 16 in 2018. With the absence of Rashford, United might have problems finding the net here.

Surely, they will be able to count on Brazilian winger Antony, but they will have to be careful in counterattacking as Sevilla have players like Youssef El-Nesyri who are capable of causing problems. The Moroccan has scored 18 goals for club and country this season, so he cannot be underestimated.

Looking at Manchester United’s recent home record of 21 wins in the last 24 matches, it is difficult to go against them, even with Rashford’s fitness issue. I don’t expect this to be a walk in the park, as Sevilla are well-experienced at this level and will surely do what they can to stay in the tie ahead of the second leg in Spain.

Jose Luis Mendilibar’s side have been struggling on the road this season, with five defeats in their last seven away matches, and their European away form hasn’t been much better, with three defeats and two draws in both the Champions League and Europa League this term. For these reasons, we are backing Manchester United to win, but only by a minimal margin, as we do expect a tight affair.

Manchester United vs Sevilla Value Bet: Ivan Rakitic to be shown a card

For our value bet, we venture into the cards market, where we have found a great boost from Betvictor on Ivan Rakitic to be shown a card. The price was 11/4, but at the moment of writing, you can get it for 3/1. Discipline has been an issue for Sevilla, who had two red cards and five yellow cards in their last draw with Celta Vigo.

Croatian midfielder Rakitic has been booked three times and also received a yellow card in La Liga this term, with an average of 1.1 tackles per game and 0.6 fouls.

In a match that we do expect to be physical and nervy as a lot is at stake, it is likely that Rakitic will end up in the referee’s book, trying to stop the qualitative midfielders at the disposal of the Dutch manager. The referee for this match is Germany’s Felix Zwayer, who has a high yellow card per game average of 4.64.

Manchester United vs Sevilla Correct Score Prediction: Manchester United 2-1

Manchester United were able to keep a clean sheet last weekend, but that was mostly due to the Toffees’ lack of punch rather than their impressive defence. Sevilla are a lot more skilled in the attacking department and might well find a goal here, in a match that we still expect United to prevail.
