A Battle for European Hopes

Key Stats
– Liverpool have scored 11 goals across their last three games.
– Tottenham have conceded 31 away goals this season, their highest since 2008/09.
– Mohamed Salah has scored eight goals in his last eight home games in all competitions.

Liverpool have had a very shaky season, but in the last few weeks they have gradually started to recover, and they are heading to this Sunday’s clash on the back of three consecutive wins that have boosted their European ambitions. At the moment, they are sitting in seventh place after winning in midweek against West Ham and are trailing the top four by only seven points. Despite the progress, though, the defensive issues haven’t been resolved, with the Reds having conceded in all their recent wins.

Jurgen Klopp has had to deal with several injuries, and this has had a direct impact on their ability to maintain the high standards we have seen in previous years. Even with these problems, Liverpool’s recent performances will give a glimmer of hope for their fans, who are now believing that a strong finish to their campaign is possible.

Tottenham’s Top-Four Hopes Dwindling

On the other hand, Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of securing a Champions League spot are getting slimmer and slimmer as the weeks pass by. Spurs have been able to secure just one point in their last three games, with their 6-1 hammering against Newcastle highlighting all their problems. They are now six points behind fourth place and have also played two additional games, which means they are running out of time and only a win in Liverpool could get them back on track.

It has been a difficult season for Tottenham, which have seen two interim managers take charge after the sacking of Antonio Conte. They will be hoping that under Ryan Mason, they will be able to quickly turn their fortunes around and pose a serious challenge for the Champions League spots.

Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur Main Betting Tip: Liverpool to Win & Both Teams To Score

Even with their defensive shortcomings, Liverpool’s impressive home record and scoring capabilities cannot be ignored, and it has been what has kept their European dream alive. As I mentioned earlier, their inability to maintain a clean sheet has been a constant problem for them this term, and Spurs have attacking players that are capable of exploiting these weaknesses.

Anfield has historically been a fortress for Liverpool, and looking at recent away games played by Tottenham, a home win is expected, but the visitors should find at least a consolatory goal with the likes of Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son, who haven’t stopped delivering despite the lack of results.

Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur Value Bet: Mohamed Salah To Have Over 2 Shots On Target

Liverpool’s resurgence has largely depended on the performances and improvements of some of their key players. The most important has been Mo Salah, who is coming into this match in great form, having scored eight goals in his last eight home games in all competitions.

Against a Tottenham back line that have conceded 11 goals in the last three league games, it makes sense to back him to have at least 2 shots on target at the 7/2 enhanced price offered by William Hill (was 29/10). Salah is averaging 1.3 shots on target per game in the Premier League this season, and he could easily increase this at home against a weak defence.

Liverpool vs Tottenham Hotspur Correct Score Prediction: Liverpool 3-1

Tottenham’s away form has been dreadful this season, and at Anfield, they have won just two of their 35 league games, with 23 defeats. They have already conceded more away goals (31) than in any Premier League season since the 2008/09 season, and with Liverpool boasting one of the best home records in the league, with 10 wins in their 15 home games, a success for the Reds looks on the cards.

However, given their defensive issues, they are likely to concede a goal to the struggling Spurs, so backing a 3-1 win for Liverpool looks like the best bet in the correct score market.
