After losing 4-0 to rivals Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey last week, Barcelona will be eager to get back on track as soon as possible. Despite that disappointment, they are well-positioned to make a strong comeback in La Liga. Under Xavi’s leadership, Barcelona have been steady in the league, having won 16 of their 18 games, and are still unbeaten at Camp Nou, where they have totaled 11 wins and two draws. Goals have been on the cards, as in six of those games there have been at least three goals scored, yet the Catalans have been rock solid at the back with 11 clean sheets.

With Barcelona keen to make amends following Wednesday’s disappointment, we do foresee goals and entertainment on Monday night against a Girona side that are fighting to avoid relegation. The visitors, who will try to cause a massive upset at the Camp Nou, are coming in decent shape with three wins in their last six games. Most of their best performances, however, have been at home, as on the road they have shown great fragility, with only 2 wins in 13 attempts and seven defeats.
Additionally, Michel’s men have never defeated Barca in their previous five attempts, and back in 2018, they were thrashed 6-1. Three of these clashes have seen at least three goals, so the trend clearly points towards an open affair here. With only 11 games remaining, Xavi’s men have a 12-point lead over Real Madrid to manage, and, with the exception of the 4-0 home defeat to Madrid in the Copa Del Rey, their defensive prowess has been evident as they have only conceded nine goals so far.
Girona are in a decent position to avoid relegation as they do have a seven-point cushion over the relegation zone, but they need to stay focused as they are involved in the battle for survival. Their recent 2-1 win against Espanyol will give them confidence, in a match where they have a lot to gain and little to lose.

It is difficult to expect anything other than a victory for Barcelona.
