Atalanta vs Roma in Top-Four Race

Key Stats
– Atalanta have won only 2 of their last 8 Serie A games.
– Roma have kept 4 clean sheets in their last 6 league games.
– Atalanta have won just 6 of their 14 home league matches this season.

As we are getting to the final stages of the Serie A season, the top-four race has heated up, and Atalanta and Roma will clash on Monday night for what is a crucial match between two teams that are going through very different periods of form. Atalanta’s recent form has been lacklustre, while Roma have been impressive both domestically and continentally and look better positioned in the Champions League hunt.

Atalanta’s Struggles

Giampiero Gasperini’s men have been able to win just two of their last eight Serie A games and only six of their 14 home matches this term. Despite a positive start to their season, these disappointing results have caused Atalanta to drop off the top six, with their European qualification in serious jeopardy.

Roma’s Resurgence

Differently from Atalanta, after a rather slow start to their campaign, Roma have found new life under Jose Mourinho and are heading to Bergamo on the back of four wins in their last five games across all competitions. The Giallorossi have built these results on a solid defence, as they have managed to keep four clean sheets in their last six league games, which means they have been able to capitalise on the work done by their attacking talents.

The Impact of Juventus’ Reprieve

The news that Juventus had their 15-point deduction reversed last week has put more pressure on both of these teams in the race for Champions League qualification. As a result of Juventus moving back to third place in the Serie A table, Roma moved to fourth position and needed points to keep the distance from both Milan clubs, while Atalanta needed to go on a run to have realistic chances of reclaiming a European spot.

Juventus’ Struggles

Even if recently things have taken a positive turn for Juventus, their recent form has been shaky, as they have only been able to win one of their last five matches in all competitions, with two draws and two defeats in the period. They have lost the last two Serie A matches against both Lazio and Sassuolo and will be motivated to make amends for the humiliating 5-1 defeat they suffered against Napoli in January.

This is not going to be easy, as they have lost three of their last four games against teams sitting in the top six in Serie A, and with their Coppa Italia semi-final second leg against Inter Milan just around the corner, The Old Lady might slightly prioritise that match over Sunday night’s one.

Atalanta vs Roma Main Betting Tip: Under 1.5 Goals

Roma are likely to feel the fatigue of the difficult second leg of the Europa League quarterfinal tie against Feyenoord, so I don’t expect that they will be able to deliver a great performance. On the other hand, Atalanta are struggling to score goals, and it is difficult to imagine that things will improve significantly against a Roma side that has a very solid record.

This is therefore a match that would likely be nervy and blocked and that might end goalless or decided by a single goal. After all, under 2.5 goals have been the outcome of 5 of the last 7 matches played by Atalanta, but I believe we can get more value by backing under 1.5 goals, considering what was said about the two teams.

Atalanta vs Roma Value Bet: Lorenzo Pellegrini to score the 1st goal

If you are looking for higher value, why not consider backing Lorenzo Pellegrini to score the first goal? As mentioned, I do not think this will be a game with many goals, and maybe a single one could decide it for Roma, who are the stronger team and in better form.

Lorenzo Pellegrini, who is also on penalty duties, has been in great form recently, having scored 2 goals in 3 games and netting a total of 5 goals in Serie A this term. With an average of 1.8 shots per game and his ability to score from free-kicks, he looks like a potential candidate to unlock what is likely to be a rather tight affair.

Atalanta vs Roma Correct Score Prediction: 1-0 Roma

The return of top players like Tammy Abraham and Paulo Dybala has improved Roma’s recent performance. They have a very solid record and a rejuvenated attack that, despite not scoring a large number of goals, is very consistent and always dangerous.

Even if they are tired, they will be in great spirits after securing the Europa League semi-final and determined to make a significant step forward to secure Champions League football next season. Considering Atalanta’s struggles, it makes sense to back them to get a narrow 1-0 win in the correct score market.
