Main Bet: Adri Arnaus

Adri Arnaus receives our top pick because, in my opinion, he is significantly overpriced as he is listed alongside several inferior athletes.

Arnaus, who had a breakthrough year by winning his first championship at the ISPS Handa Championship after coming close in Saudi Arabia & South Africa earlier, is now ranked 20th in the Race to Dubai.

We all thought he had the potential to become one of the best players on the circuit, and his improved approach play & putting have combined with his incredible length to make him that. He seems to be in a difficult period after the success in Spain.  However, 3 of his 7 outings since the Spanish triumph have taken place in majors, and another one was in a top-tier competition on links soil, so it’s not at all strange that his performances don’t appear to be particularly outstanding.

If you look past them, you’ll notice that he was the Open’s leader in greens hit and finished seventh in strokes gained approach, despite having terrible putting. This was also true in the Scottish Open the week before, where his driving was exceptional except for the sluggish, links greens that utterly derailed his improved putting.

However, I really don’t think there’s any reason to be concerned about the state of his play, and that makes him a top-class contender even before we take into account the fact that he was just a shot outside the 2019 play-off, when dominating the field with driver on who was his 1st  visit to Swiss mountains. Whether he can find the cure here in Switzerland may very well decide how well he does.

He possesses form in corresponding courses that shows that there is much more to him, and if he does come here in his finest shape, he should be able to cause a lot of damage. He finished second in Kenya, at Valderrama, and also led the first round at Wentworth.

Andy Sullivan (Each-Way) To Win

Each Way Bet: Andy Sullivan

Our second pick for this week is Andy Sullivan, who comes here in good shape and with an increased chance after placing 3 at Celtic Manor when pretty much everything went right and 8th in the Cazoo Classic.
It was encouraging to see Sullivan continue to make strides in his approach play, as he produced his best statistics of the year to place ninth. In addition, he has also improved his driving. It speaks something about the way his game is going because it was his finest ball-striking performance since 2020.

Before the Cazoo Open, Sullivan’s Celtic Manor record was one of unmet potential, and the same is true in Crans. In the past, he has fired rounds of 74-66, 74-67, and 67-73, all of which resulted in just one missed cut, and he has also finished 30th when in second place following an opening round of 65.

All of this suggests to me that he can claim a European Masters if, as he hinted at last year, he practises patience and uses opportunities when they present themselves.

This course is not as simple as it may appear, and Sullivan’s accurate ball striking should provide a solid foundation for what could be a significantly difficult week if the most severe of the predicted weather materialises. At this price, he seemed to be a good each-way option considering all the circumstances.
