Today’s Focus Races

Today’s racing promises excitement, with a mixture of seasoned runners and up-and-coming talents in various contests. At Sandown, the 3:23 race offers an intriguing challenge for Beshtani, who performed admirably in his previous races. He’ll face stiff competition from the likes of Rock d’Oro, another strong prospect looking to break into the winner’s circle. Meanwhile, over at Yarmouth, Naomi Lapaglia steps up in distance in the 3:30 race, aiming to bounce back after an unlucky run last time out.

However, she’ll have to fend off competition from Dash Of Azure, who has shown promise despite her defeat at Newmarket. Over at Beverley, Blue Zodiac looks well-positioned in the 3:45 after impressive earlier performances, but she’ll face a challenge from Sands of Indi, who has been knocking on the door for a victory. Each of these races will test the stamina and adaptability of the horses, especially on varying grounds and over different distances.

Nap of the Day

Beshtani enters this race as one of the key contenders, particularly following his excellent efforts earlier in the season. This four-year-old, trained by Hamad Al Jehani, came agonisingly close to winning at Epsom, missing out by the slimmest of margins. While his subsequent performance in the Royal Hunt Cup was less impressive, he regained form quickly, running prominently in the Summer Mile where he finished just under two lengths behind Quddwah, a smart performer. Given the expected pace of this race, Beshtani should benefit from another forward-riding approach. Al Jehani’s recent form is a strong indicator, as his last two runners have both found the winner’s enclosure, making Beshtani a solid bet for today.

Richard Spencer’s filly, Naomi Lapaglia, has shown that she can compete at a high level, as demonstrated by her credible performances in group races at Ascot and Haydock. Although her last run at Sandown didn’t go as planned, the ten-furlong distance today should suit her, given her stamina-filled pedigree. Naomi Lapaglia showed her quality last season when she was considered good enough to contest the 1,000 Guineas. She has matured into a solid performer this term, and with Spencer’s horses often delivering surprises in competitive races, Naomi Lapaglia could well be the one to watch in this contest.

Ralph Beckett’s Rock d’Oro lines up in the 2:50 at Sandown with plenty of promise after an eye-catching debut performance at Chelmsford, where he was narrowly beaten by the now unbeaten Bay City Roller. That rival’s subsequent success in Group 2 company at Doncaster further enhances the form of Rock d’Oro’s runner-up finish, marking him as one to back in today’s novice stakes. Beckett’s horses are often known for improving with each run, and with David Egan taking the reins, Rock d’Oro looks well-placed to secure his first career win today. This race should provide the perfect opportunity for him to demonstrate his potential and start to build a winning streak.

Our last tip comes from the 3:55 at Sandown, where Windcrack looks poised to build on her recent success. Trained by Andrew Balding, this filly finally found her winning stride at Sandown over a mile, appreciating the drop back in distance after struggling in longer races earlier in the season. Her previous victory was authoritative, earning her a 5lb rise in the weights, but her form suggests that she’s only just beginning to progress. With three-year-olds winning this race in the past three years, Windcrack fits the trend perfectly, and her combination of improving form and an ideal trip makes her the standout pick for today’s card.
