Horse Racing Tips & Predictions for Tuesday 20th August 2024
Today’s Focus Races
Today’s racing action presents a range of competitive contests across several courses, with particular interest in the all-weather races at Kempton and the turf battles at Nottingham and Brighton. At Kempton, Channagide and Ten Dimes are two promising horses to watch, each showing potential in recent outings.

Meanwhile, at Nottingham, Sanat and Bowood have caught the eye with recent performances, both poised to make an impact. Brighton also features some intriguing prospects, such as Wake Up Harry, who looks set to bounce back after a series of respectable efforts. Each of these races will require a blend of stamina, speed, and strategic riding, making for an exciting day of racing.
Nap of the Day
Reasoning | |
Sanat, representing the powerful Roger Varian stable, is a colt with plenty of potential, as demonstrated in his recent outings. His close second at Southwell on his handicap debut earlier this month suggested that the breathing operation he underwent has had a positive effect. Raised only 1lb for that performance, Sanat appears well-treated and should find today’s race conditions to his liking.
This lightly-raced three-year-old has been gradually improving with each run, and today’s race at Nottingham presents an excellent opportunity for him to secure his first victory. With the experienced Silvestre De Sousa aboard, Sanat is expected to deliver a winning performance, making him the Nap of the Day.
Reasoning | |
Channagide, a well-bred two-year-old trained by Marco Botti, showed considerable promise on his debut over seven furlongs at Kempton two weeks ago. Despite a somewhat ordinary start, his finishing effort was eye-catching as he made significant ground in the final stages. The step up to a mile today should suit him well, given his pedigree and the way he finished his last race.
If he can replicate or improve upon his previous performance, Channagide is likely to be in the mix at the finish. The slight increase in distance should allow him to use his stamina to full effect, making him a strong contender in this race.
Reasoning | |
Ten Dimes, a filly with notable form on all-weather tracks, looked slightly outclassed in her last outing in a Listed race at York. However, prior to that, she had secured a win and two second-place finishes on similar surfaces. Returning to a level that better suits her abilities, Ten Dimes is well-positioned to reclaim her earlier form. This handicap debut presents an opportunity for her to bounce back, and her earlier performances on the all-weather cannot be overlooked. With Robert Havlin in the saddle, she has the credentials to be a leading player in this race, where her proven ability on this surface could see her back in the winner’s enclosure.
Reasoning | |
Wake Up Harry comes into today’s race at Brighton after a solid second-place finish at Newmarket last month. This six-year-old has been in decent form this season, despite not always having the clearest of runs in his races. The return of blinkers, which have worked well for him in the past, should sharpen his focus today. Additionally, the booking of talented apprentice Billy Loughnane is a positive move, as his 3lb claim could make all the difference in a race where margins are often tight. Given his recent form and the conditions of today’s race, Wake Up Harry looks to have a strong chance of securing victory.
