Today, we’ve got selections across these major racecourses for what promises to be an exhilarating day of racing. We have a packed day ahead with races that feature a mix of both experienced contenders and up-and-coming talents. At Doncaster, the Champagne Stakes (13:50) promises to be a closely fought affair, with several strong two-year-olds vying for the title. Expect the likes of Wolf Of Badenoch to face stiff competition from horses like Chancellor, who has shown promise on this course.

The Portland Stakes (14:25) brings together sprinters who might find six furlongs too long and five too short, making it a tactical battle. Holkham Bay, drawn in stall 12, will be up against formidable opponents, including Albasheer and Vintage Clarets. Over at Chester, the Edinburgh Gin Jump Jockeys Challenge offers an intriguing mix of jump jockeys tackling the flat track, with competitors like Sea Legend and V Power trying their luck in unfamiliar conditions.

Nap of the Day

Our Nap of the Day comes from the second division of the Edinburgh Gin Jump Jockeys Challenge at Chester. V Power, ridden by Charlie Deutsch, looks poised to strike after an unlucky run at the track last time out. Trainer Tom Faulkner has expressed confidence in both the trip and ground conditions suiting the horse, and Deutsch, despite his relative inexperience at Chester, is a talented rider who should be able to navigate the unique demands of the course. Drawn well and with favourable conditions, V Power stands out as the best bet of the day.

Hugo Palmer’s Wolf Of Badenoch is tipped to have a strong chance in the Champagne Stakes. This horse made an impressive debut at this track and followed up with a commendable second in the Vintage Stakes at Goodwood, finishing behind a highly regarded Godolphin horse. The third horse in that race, Cool Hoof Luke, has since gone on to win the Gimcrack at York, boosting the form of the race significantly.

While Chancellor, from the powerful Gosden yard, has looked solid with wins at Doncaster, Wolf Of Badenoch’s proven form over this course makes him a leading contender. His combination of speed and endurance should serve him well over this distance, making him a solid selection for today.

In the competitive Portland Stakes, Holkham Bay presents a solid each-way opportunity. Despite a tough run at York where he was compromised by a poor draw, his overall form this season has been excellent, with two wins and two seconds in his last four outings. Drawn in stall 12, he should benefit from the anticipated pace on the higher side of the track. With a five-pound claimer on board, he will carry a light weight, which could make all the difference in this tightly contested sprint. His ability to navigate the challenges of the race, combined with his form, suggests he is well-positioned to place, if not challenge for the win.

In the Park Stakes, Shouldvebeenaring represents a value pick at a longer price. While Kinross will attract plenty of support as the favourite, there are doubts about whether he is the force he once was. Shouldvebeenaring, trained by Richard Hannon, has strong credentials despite a below-par showing in the Sprint Cup at Haydock. His earlier performance at York’s Ebor meeting, where he placed in a race dominated by a pace bias, shows he’s capable of competing at this level. The step up in trip today could suit him perfectly, and with question marks over some of the other fancied runners, Shouldvebeenaring could surprise at decent odds.
