Today’s Focus Races

With several notable horses taking to the tracks today, there’s plenty of thrilling competition ahead. At Haydock, the 1:50 race features Master Builder, who impressed in his earlier novice runs, but he faces stiff competition from horses like Too Bossy For Us, who could spring a surprise with the first-time cheekpieces.

Over at Kempton, Lion’s Pride will be keen to show his dominance again on a track he knows well, although Vultar also enters as an intriguing contender in the 3:15. At Ascot, attention turns to Rohaan, a proven performer at this venue, yet he will need to watch out for newer rivals. Overall, success will come down to a combination of experience and how well these horses handle the conditions.

Nap of the Day

Despite being slightly off his peak form, Rohaan still possesses the class to win at this level. His preference for Ascot is evident, having won here five times from nine starts, and his record becomes flawless when competing outside of Group 1 company. He carries 6lb less than when he last won over this course and distance, which only adds to his chances.

Though he hasn’t run frequently on softer ground, Rohaan has thrived in such conditions before, including a career-best performance on soft ground in the Sandy Lane Stakes. With a favourable handicap mark and track conditions that suit, Rohaan looks set to be the one to beat in this race.

Master Builder has shown consistent form throughout the season and looks set to put in another strong performance. He narrowly triumphed at Salisbury in May, holding off a tough challenge from Subsequent, who has since gone on to shine with three victories.

Master Builder’s last outing in the Melrose saw him come third, where he was somewhat unlucky to find himself short of space at a crucial moment, yet he powered home impressively on ground that didn’t entirely suit. With a slight rise in the handicap, he appears ready to tackle today’s field and should benefit from the conditions.

Kempton has been a happy hunting ground for Lion’s Pride, who has enjoyed two wins from his three starts here. His third-place finish in the Magnolia Stakes, while over a shorter distance, still reflects solid form, especially considering the calibre of the race’s winner, Dubai Honour, who has since thrived at the Group 1 level.

Lion’s Pride’s standout performance came in the Floodlit Stakes, where he dominated his rivals, including Measured Time—a subsequent Group 1 winner. Receiving 3lb from his main rival Hamish, Lion’s Pride should hold a decisive advantage. Expect him to be a strong contender again today.

Vultar has demonstrated his prowess on all-weather surfaces, particularly at Kempton, where his past form is strong. His comeback at Southwell last week suggested that he might just need a little more sharpness following a summer break. Still, his Kempton record, which includes two wins and a runner-up finish from four starts, makes him a real threat today.

Dropped 1lb since his last race, and now just a pound higher than his close second in April, Vultar could be poised to rediscover his best form. The pace in this race should suit his style, and with conditions in his favour, he represents good value.
