Among the contenders is Monoceros, a colt who has shown ability in two runs over seven furlongs, including a victory and a solid staying-on third. Gold Dawn is another of interest, having produced encouraging efforts at seven furlongs, and connections now seek to stretch him over this longer trip in the hope of unlocking hidden stamina. Indigo Dawn also attempts the mile for the first time, though her nursery efforts so far have been underwhelming, leaving her with questions to answer. Loblolly, meanwhile, has been holding form on artificial surfaces but now faces the challenge of proving as effective on turf.
The most intriguing runner, however, is Dark Shore, trained by Jane Chapple-Hyam, who makes his first appearance in handicap company. His profile suggests he could be well suited to the demands of today’s test, and much anticipation surrounds whether he can convert promise into a breakthrough success. With such a mix of progressive and inconsistent profiles, today’s feature has all the ingredients to deliver an absorbing contest.

Now stepping up to a mile, his pedigree gives strong hints that stamina will be an asset, and his opening mark of 78 appears lenient given the substance of his efforts so far. With a first-time hood already behind him and valuable experience banked, this looks the right time for Dark Shore to assert himself. He is well handicapped, open to progress, and has the right profile to upset Monoceros, who may be popular in the betting but faces an altogether different type of rival today.
