Most recently, he chased home Lucky Place in the Relkeel Hurdle on New Year’s Day, a Grade 2 contest over 2m4½f, where he finished four lengths clear of Golden Ace, a previous Cheltenham Festival winner. That effort highlighted both his class and his ability to handle high-pressure races.
What sets Gowel Road apart in today’s field is his proven stamina and adaptability. Returning to the extended three-mile trip, a distance at which he has previously excelled, looks ideal for him.
