Races Previews For Today’s, Thursday 4th July at Haydock and Newbury

Today’s racing offers a thrilling mix of events across various racecourses, featuring a blend of seasoned campaigners and promising newcomers. We will explore the horses competing in these races, highlighting those that could perform well. Let’s dive into the details of today’s contests.

3:40 Haydock – Handicap Sprint

The 3:40 race at Haydock promises to be a competitive sprint with several noteworthy contenders. Tiriac, trained by Jack Channon, is a four-year-old who had a successful spell in June, securing wins at Windsor and York. Despite facing traffic issues at York last month, Tiriac demonstrated strong staying power and remains a formidable competitor today.

However, he faces competition from other sprinters, including Holkham Bay, who narrowly defeated Tiriac at York. Holkham Bay has shown consistency and could pose a significant challenge once again. The race also features other notable sprinters like Sedgemoor, who has recently improved, making this a tightly contested event.

4:45 Haydock – Fillies’ Handicap

Clive Cox’s Smouldering, a daughter of Profitable, makes her turf debut today after promising performances on the all-weather tracks. With a win at Kempton following her second place at Wolverhampton, she has proven form. Cox’s 50 per cent strike rate at Haydock this season adds to her credentials.

She will compete against a mix of seasoned fillies, including the in-form Sedgemoor, who recently won after finishing fourth behind Smouldering at Kempton. This contest could hinge on which horse adapts best to the turf conditions, making for an exciting race.

6:10 Newbury – Fillies’ Handicap

In the 6:10 race at Newbury, Adrian Nicholls’ mare Hurt You Never returns to a familiar venue where she enjoyed success last June. Known for her strong performances on quick ground, the drying conditions will suit her. Regular rider Mia Nicholls claims a useful 3lb, giving her a competitive edge.

Hurt You Never faces rivals such as Lady of Arabia, who drops in class today. Despite a less impressive overall turf record, Lady of Arabia has shown potential with a previous victory and a second place on grass. The battle between these fillies will be closely watched.

4:00 Yarmouth – Handicap

Queen’s Company has not been at her best this year but showed promise in her recent third place at Yarmouth. She won 10-furlong handicaps off similar marks last season and now finds herself back at a favourable rating of 63. Trainer Miss J Feilden will be hopeful she can find form again in today’s event.

Other horses to watch include Zaman Daar, who recently won at Windsor and looks to appreciate the extra furlong at Yarmouth. The competition here is fierce, and it will be intriguing to see who comes out on top.

2:48 Perth – Handicap Hurdle

Annie Agnew is a standout contender in the two-mile handicap hurdle at Perth. Trained by Gerald Quinn and ridden by Sean Bowen, she has shown significant promise with a victory at Down Royal following her runner-up debut at Ballinrobe. Her attitude and form suggest she could be nicely treated on her handicap debut.

However, Dicey Rielly, another competitor in this race, has a strong track record at Perth, winning twice in his last two appearances. His experience at this course could give him an edge over the competition.

Horse Racing Tips For Today’s, Thursday 4th July at Haydock and Newbury

Horse 219 N

Jack Channon’s Tiriac, a four-year-old sprinter with a commendable record, is our pick for the 3:40 at Haydock. Tiriac has shown remarkable consistency this season, particularly highlighted by his two victories in May at Windsor and York. His last outing at York was a testament to his resilience; despite encountering significant traffic issues, he finished a respectable third, demonstrating his ability to stay strong under pressure.

With a clearer passage today, Tiriac has a strong chance of returning to winning ways. The application of cheekpieces has clearly helped him focus, and with the favourable conditions at Haydock, he is well-positioned to excel.

Adrian Nicholls’ mare, Hurt You Never, stands out in the 6:10 at Newbury. This five-year-old has a proven track record at this venue, winning over six furlongs last June, which was part of a four-race winning streak. Her performances on quick ground have been particularly noteworthy, and the drying conditions today will be in her favour.

Regular jockey Mia Nicholls claims a valuable 3lb, enhancing Hurt You Never’s chances. Additionally, her ability to perform well over the minimum distance, coupled with her favourable draw and past successes at Newbury, make her a formidable contender in this race.

Miss J Feilden’s Queen’s Company, a five-year-old mare, is our selection for the 4:00 at Yarmouth. Although she has not been in peak form this year, her recent third-place finish at Yarmouth showed significant promise. Last season, she won 10-furlong handicaps off marks of 63 and 65 at this course, and she is now back to a rating of 63.

This suggests she is well-handicapped and ready to return to her best. A bigger field and a stronger pace might have been ideal, but Queen’s Company’s ability to find cover and her previous successes at Yarmouth provide a strong case for her selection. Dylan Hogan, who knows the mare well, takes the ride, which should further enhance her chances.

Gerald Quinn’s Annie Agnew, with a promising track record and ridden by Sean Bowen, is our pick for the 2:48 at Perth. Annie Agnew made a remarkable impression on her debut, finishing second at Ballinrobe at 40/1, which she followed up with a victory at Down Royal. Her competitive spirit and ability to handle pressure were evident in these performances.

Making her handicap debut off a mark of 106, she appears to be well-treated and ready to excel. Sean Bowen, who has had significant success at Perth, will be in the saddle, adding further confidence to Annie Agnew’s chances. The mare’s proven ability to perform well under different conditions and her excellent track record make her a standout contender in this race.
