Races Previews For Today’s, Sunday 7th July at Market Rasen and Chelmsford

Market Rasen

At Market Rasen, the 2.50 race features Gentle Life, who returned from a two-year hiatus last month, finishing second to Gale Mahler. Despite a less than perfect jump at the last, Gentle Life showed promise by travelling well and staying on to secure second place. The additional distance in today’s race seems favourable, suggesting he could improve further.

Also at Market Rasen, River Robe competes in the 3.25 race. In her debut for Dan Skelton, she displayed an impressive performance, making significant headway and effortlessly asserting dominance over the course and distance last month. Although she faces an 11lb rise, her prior performance suggests this may not hinder her potential for another win.

Lenebane is another notable contender at Market Rasen, participating in the 2.15 race. This mare, trained by Rebecca Menzies, showed a commendable effort last time out, finishing second over the course and distance. With the same jockey and a longer trip, Lenebane is expected to advance further.

Chelmsford

Over at Chelmsford, Lough Leane is a horse to watch in the 5.35 race. After winning five consecutive all-weather races earlier in the year, Lough Leane has been competing on turf recently, narrowly missing victory in his last race. His return to an artificial surface, where he has previously excelled, could see him regain his winning form.

In the 2.45 race at Chelmsford, Remoji, trained by Roger Varian, is a developing talent. She came from behind to win at Beverley last time and seems poised to continue her progression in this race.

Ayr

Ayr’s 4.10 race features Regheeb, a standout selection. Trained by Archie Watson, Regheeb has shown improvement since being gelded, and his front-running style might be well-suited to this race. With a drop in class from his last two runs and a solid performance in the Royal Hunt Cup, Regheeb is expected to thrive in this less competitive environment.

Braes Of Doune is another strong contender at Ayr, particularly in the 5.20 race. Having won this race under Paul Mulrennan last year, Braes Of Doune has maintained that form over a mile this season. Returning to 1m2f could see him perform even better, especially considering his impressive history.

Gentle Life made a notable return to racing after a long two-year break, demonstrating resilience and potential by finishing second last month. He managed to close the gap significantly despite a minor error at the final hurdle, trailing behind Gale Mahler, an impressive winner who later triumphed in a higher-class race.

This performance is a testament to Gentle Life’s capability and stamina, which will be further tested with the additional distance in today’s race. The longer track should align well with his running style, enhancing his prospects of finishing first. Given the form he displayed and the improvement expected with this longer race, Gentle Life is a formidable contender, poised to leverage his recent racing experience to secure a victory.

River Robe’s debut for Dan Skelton was nothing short of spectacular. She exhibited a remarkable turn of foot, effortlessly advancing through the field to clinch victory over the same course and distance as today’s race. Despite the handicapper imposing an 11lb rise, her dominant display suggests that she has the potential to overcome this new challenge.

The ease with which she asserted herself last time, barely needing more than a nudge to maintain her lead, highlights her potential to continue this winning streak. Her form and the seamless adaptation to her new trainer’s methods make River Robe a compelling choice for today’s race, where she is likely to build on her previous performance.

Lough Leane’s impressive run on all-weather tracks, winning five consecutive races earlier this year, underscores his adaptability and prowess on artificial surfaces. After a brief hiatus, he shifted to turf, where he narrowly missed victory, finishing just half a length behind a class dropper.

This near win, coupled with his consistent performance on all-weather tracks, positions him favourably for a return to winning ways. His last win on an artificial surface was achieved with apparent ease, suggesting that the current mark should not pose a significant barrier. Returning to the familiar ground of an all-weather track, Lough Leane is expected to reclaim his winning form, leveraging his earlier successes to outpace his competitors.

Damascus Steel, under the tutelage of Ed Dunlop, has shown significant improvement with the addition of blinkers, which have enhanced his focus and performance. His recent run at Kempton, where he stepped up to two miles, highlighted his growing stamina and ability to maintain a strong pace.

Today’s race, with its extended 1m5f distance, is expected to suit his running style perfectly, particularly if the pace is strong from the start. Damascus Steel’s ability to handle the course and his recent form suggest he is well-prepared to tackle today’s race. With Silvestre De Sousa in the saddle, his chances of securing a top position are bolstered, making him a formidable contender in this competitive field.
