Races Previews For Today’s, Friday 5th July at Sandown

Today’s racing at Sandown, Doncaster, Newton Abbot, and Haydock features a variety of competitive events. At Sandown, the 2.30 race sees Aesterius as a strong contender. His performance at Royal Ascot, finishing just behind the highly-rated Whistlejacket, suggests he is well-prepared for this Listed contest. Other notable entries include The Actor, who finished mid-division in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot, indicating potential improvement. Additionally, Pantile Warrior, making his debut, has shown promise in training and could pose a significant challenge.

In the 3.05 race at Sandown, Equilateral’s drop back into handicap company makes him a key player. His past performances, especially his second-place finish behind Battaash in the King’s Stand Stakes, highlight his ability to compete at a high level. However, he faces competition from horses like Navello, who has shown consistency in listed races. Also in contention is Dream Composer, whose recent form suggests he could spring a surprise.

The 4.15 race at Sandown features Lion’s Pride, whose form is particularly strong. His seasonal debut third behind Dubai Honour and victories over Middle Earth and Measured Time demonstrate his class. This race is a great opportunity for him to secure his first turf victory. However, he will have to contend with Savvy Victory, last year’s winner of this contest, who has also shown good form this season. Prague, another strong competitor, cannot be overlooked given his recent performances and ability to handle different race conditions.

At Doncaster, the 2.40 novice stakes include French Master, a son of Frankel, who showed greenness on debut but is expected to improve significantly. This race is critical for assessing his development and potential future success. Other competitors like Pantile Warrior, with impressive breeding and training background, are expected to perform well. Young Fire, who has been consistent in his runs, also adds depth to the field.

Newton Abbot’s 2.50 race features Carrigeen Kampala, a mare with a perfect record at the track. Her latest victory at this venue underlines her affinity for the course, though she faces a strong rival in Jumeirah King, who is on an upward trajectory. Additionally, Magistrato, known for his solid summer form, is another significant contender to watch out for in this competitive field.

Haydock’s evening races include the 6.08 contest, where Clear Storm, trained by William Haggas, looks to build on a career-best performance at Hamilton. The slight drop in trip to 10 furlongs appears beneficial, and she remains on a favourable mark of 68, suggesting further improvement is possible. Also in the mix is Vicario, who recently finished a close second in a strong maiden race, making her handicap debut off a promising mark. Another noteworthy participant is Renewal, who showed significant promise on her debut and is expected to improve with the extra distance.

Aesterius is expected to excel in the 2.30 at Sandown. His close finish behind Whistlejacket at Royal Ascot signals his readiness to take this Listed race. The form he displayed at Ascot, coupled with his successful debut, positions him as the one to beat. Aesterius, a high-priced purchase at £380,000, showcased his potential immediately by winning his first race in May.

This debut win, combined with his commendable performance at Royal Ascot where he was just edged out by the highly regarded Whistlejacket, highlights his calibre. His connections had high expectations at Ascot, and despite finishing fifth, the quality of competition and the close margin of defeat to the winner, Shareholder, underline his capability.

With James Doyle opting for Shareholder over Aesterius, the horse still managed to outperform many, suggesting that in a slightly less competitive field, he is the favourite. Additionally, his ability to handle various race conditions and maintain form across different tracks further strengthens his chances.

Equilateral, with his proven track record in handicap races and notable performances at the highest levels, is tipped to triumph in the 3.05 at Sandown. His ability to carry top weight and his past victories make him a standout choice. At nine years old, Equilateral has a wealth of experience and a remarkable track record, particularly in handicap company where he has been unbeaten in his last three starts.

His performance at York’s Ebor meeting last season, where he won a heritage handicap while carrying a substantial weight, demonstrates his capacity to handle competitive races. Additionally, his second-place finish behind Battaash in the 2020 King’s Stand Stakes underscores his ability to compete at the highest level.

This, coupled with his runner-up position to Regional in a Haydock Listed race, illustrates his consistency and ability to perform well in various conditions. His current rating, just 1lb lower than his York victory, makes him a formidable contender in today’s race.

Lion’s Pride is predicted to secure a victory in the 4.15 at Sandown. His form, particularly his third-place finish behind Dubai Honour, and his juvenile victories against strong competition, make him the favourite. This race offers a prime chance to showcase his turf abilities.

Lion’s Pride has consistently performed at a high level, as evidenced by his impressive seasonal debut, where he finished a strong third behind Dubai Honour, who subsequently won the Group 1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud. This solid form is complemented by his juvenile season, where he triumphed over notable horses such as Middle Earth and Measured Time.

His ability to perform well across different tracks, including his victories at Kempton, indicates his adaptability and readiness to secure his first turf win. Furthermore, his performance last season, where he accounted for Royal Ascot winner Belloccio, highlights his class and potential to excel in today’s contest.

French Master is anticipated to shine in the 2.40 novice stakes at Doncaster. Despite a green debut, his breeding and potential for significant improvement suggest he will be a much stronger contender this time around. French Master, a son of the illustrious Frankel, demonstrated his potential on debut despite showing signs of inexperience.

His breeding indicates a high ceiling for improvement, and his performance at Sandown, where he went off as the 9/4 favourite, suggests that his connections have high hopes for his future. The experience gained from his first race, coupled with a step up in trip, is expected to bring about significant improvement.

The Gosden training team is known for their skill in developing young talent, and French Master is poised to benefit from their expertise. This race provides an excellent platform for him to demonstrate his potential and secure a notable victory.
