Main Bet: Brian Harman To Win
Let’s start out 2023 with a first piece of advice. A quick look back at the last two years shows that both Smith and English had been in the top five in a FedEx Cup competition before they won. That seems like a good place to start, and Brian Harman is my favourite among the group that checks that box. The left-hander placed second in the World Wide Technology Championship in Mexico two weeks prior and second in the RSM Classic, both in late November. The fact that both tournaments were held on coastlines doesn’t hurt.
The 35-year-old carded rounds of 66, 66, 67, 66, 67, 69, 64, and 65 while shooting 19-under and 17-under, respectively. He amassed 39 birdies and two eagles throughout the course of the two competitions. Harman and Sepp Straka both took part in the QBE Shootout. In rounds one and three, they tied Hoge and Theegala’s scores of 60 and 62, but they tied for seventh place overall.
The American is competing in the sport for the third time, and his past performance enhances his appeal. While Harman’s latest visit in 2018 saw him grab the lead midway with rounds of 68-68 before ultimately finishing third after scores of 69 and 72 on the weekend, Harman made his debut in 2015 and closed with an eight-under 65 to finish 17th.
Based on his 2018 results, it’s difficult to argue that he can’t win this tournament due to his lack of distance from the tee. Take a chance on Harman at this generous price.
