Allen has a fairly easy path to repeating as the number one seed, and at 16/1, he jumps out as a clear each-way pick. When he reached the British Open final, he had shed over five stone over the course of the summer and appeared to have entirely recovered. And Allen, who had struggled with consistency and off-table issues for a couple of seasons, advanced to the final by defeating Trump, Mark Selby, and other players.
Allen’s first match against Chang Bingyu is not easy, but Ricky Walden would be the toughest opponent he could face before the quarterfinals. He would likely go up against Mark Williams or Kyren Wilson in the quarterfinals. Before that point, each of these potential rivals must overcome a number of obstacles on their own.
As an alternative each-way bet you might want to consider Robinson. Jimmy Robertson is one outsider who might come out of that sub-section instead. Robertson was among the most improved players last term, making nine top-32 finishes, including a few runs to the semifinals. His two losses in ranking tournaments this year went to Wilson and Ryan Day, the eventual champions. The odds of 175/1 are very appealing both ways.
Neil Robertson, on the other hand, has never advanced past the final 32 in the Northern Ireland Open; perhaps this is why it takes him a little longer to reach his best. An each-way bet with cash out during the tournament looks like the best option here to capitalise on his form.
