Sole Spirit (14:40 Carlisle)
John Pentin; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale: Carlisle’s six-furlong Class 5 handicap promises to be an intriguing opening leg for our Lucky 15, and Sole Spirit looks the one with the most upside. The three-year-old has already demonstrated real potential by stringing together two wins earlier this campaign, both at Doncaster and Thirsk. Those successes came at today’s distance, showing he has the speed and strength to handle the task at hand.

What makes Sole Spirit especially appealing is the way he dealt with a significant rise in the weights for his second success. Carrying an extra 7lb, he still showed enough acceleration to settle matters against credible opposition, drawing clear of the runner-up with authority. This sort of progression signals a horse still very much on an upward curve.
The fact he now tackles Carlisle for a trainer with a proven record in this race only enhances his claims. Bryan Smart’s yard have lifted this very contest three times since 2016, including last season, which adds historical confidence. Given that profile, Sole Spirit looks a solid choice to continue his winning run and provide a strong starting point for the accumulator.
Rocks Up Late (16:50 Worcester)
Herrin Kendrick; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale: The second leg of today’s Lucky 15 takes us over the jumps at Worcester, where Rocks Up Late bids to bounce back from a disappointing effort last time out at Market Rasen. That blip aside, his profile remains compelling. Before that pulled-up performance, he had made a flawless start to life under trainer Ben Pauling, stringing together three straight victories across Worcester and Fontwell.

Two of those came over course and distance, highlighting his affinity for this particular track. Horses that relish specific conditions often thrive when returned to their favoured venue, and Rocks Up Late fits that description. The Market Rasen outing was concerning, but it is worth noting he was in a rich vein of form prior to it and had been progressing with each start.
Connections are confident the setback was a one-off, and there’s every chance he can show his true colours again here. At his best, he travels strongly, jumps economically, and finds extra under pressure – attributes that mark him as a danger to all at this level. If he returns to anything near the form of his previous three victories, he should be a serious contender.
Alphonse Le Grande (16:10 York)
Gram Dodd; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale: The third leg of our Lucky 15 centres on York’s Stayers’ Handicap, and Alphonse Le Grande looks primed to make amends after a luckless run at Royal Ascot. A proven performer in big-field staying handicaps, he captured major prizes last season, including the Chester Cup consolation and the Northumberland Plate consolation before crowning his campaign with a gutsy win in the Cesarewitch.
This season he shaped as though needing the run when reappearing at the Curragh, but he left that effort behind at Royal Ascot. On that occasion, he travelled smoothly but met trouble in running early in the straight, losing valuable momentum. Despite that, he rallied impressively to finish within striking distance of the principals, giving every indication he retains his old ability.
With only two runs under his belt so far this year, he remains relatively fresh and still looks fairly handicapped. His proven stamina over extreme trips and his ability to dig deep under pressure make him a standout choice in this competitive field. York’s long straight provides the perfect stage for his relentless finishing kick, and if granted a clearer passage, he could well assert late.
Valsharah (20:20 Kempton)
Steve Harrington; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale: The final selection in today’s Lucky 15 comes at Kempton, where Valsharah looks poised to strike after a highly encouraging effort last time out. Upped to seven furlongs, he tried to dictate matters from the front but was collared by Breakdancer, who appeared a cut above on the day. Importantly, Valsharah stuck on gamely to finish second, pulling well clear of the remainder.
That effort confirmed he is capable of performing to a level required to win in this grade. Returning now to the same course and distance, conditions look tailor-made for another bold bid. With valuable track experience under his belt, he should be sharper tactically and may find this assignment less demanding without a rival of Breakdancer’s calibre in opposition.
His natural early pace is a big weapon at Kempton, where prominent runners often gain an advantage. If he can conserve a little more for the closing stages, the balance of his profile suggests he has what it takes to land this race. With his progression clear to see, Valsharah represents an excellent way to close the Lucky 15 on a high.
