13:55 Goodwood – Zavateri
Herrin Kendrick; Racing Analyst at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
This 7f Group 2 juvenile race sees Zavateri step up in trip after impressing over six on just his second start, and the signs are that there’s much more to come. The colt, conditioned by Eve Johnson Houghton, was a surprise winner at Newmarket earlier this month when outrunning some fancied names from major stables. Not only did he display sharp acceleration and balance on the July Course, but his pedigree hints that further will be even more to his liking. With Without Parole as his sire and Siyouni on the dam’s side, there’s both class and stamina in abundance.
The Newmarket success was against better-experienced rivals, yet he travelled with assurance and looked professional under pressure. On a course like Goodwood, that sort of adaptability is vital, and with Charles Bishop retaining the ride, continuity is also in his favour. A tricky race to assess given the depth, but Zavateri looks one of the few open to significant progress. If he handles this sharp track, he might prove very hard to peg back with a little luck in running.

16:20 Goodwood – Naval Light
Steve Harrington; Flat Racing Expert at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Naval Light may still be winless, but the strength of his two outings so far points to plenty more to come. Representing Wathnan Racing and trained by Karl Burke, the colt has shown significant promise in deep waters, most notably when finishing behind Charles Darwin in the Norfolk at Royal Ascot. Prior to that, he was only narrowly beaten at Beverley in a race that’s worked out nicely, and the step up to 6f today looks absolutely the right call. There’s real speed on both sides of his pedigree, with Havana Grey supplying raw pace and Dandy Man ensuring sharpness and acceleration.
What’s held him back so far has been slow starts, but Burke’s yard is known for ironing out such gremlins and the additional furlong gives the colt more time to recover if he’s slightly tardy again. Drawn in stall 10, James Doyle should have options tactically. If Naval Light breaks even marginally better than he has done, his finishing power might prove too strong for this field. With this maiden expected to produce several future winners, today could mark the start of a progressive profile. He’s shown hints that he’s well above average — this might be the day he proves it.
14:30 Goodwood – Nostrum
Gram Dodd; BettingTips4You Market Watcher
Rationale:
There’s often value to be found by siding with talent that has lost its way slightly, and in Nostrum we might have just that in the Lennox Stakes. Once a horse spoken of in lofty terms, Nostrum failed to maintain the upward trajectory anticipated early in his career. Now under the care of David O’Meara, this could be the right time and place for him to start rebuilding. O’Meara has shown great skill with rejuvenating such types, and this horse is certainly capable of producing a big run at a double-figure price.
He’s been dropped a touch in class and tackles a field full of ifs, buts and maybes — few of which can boast the raw ability that Nostrum has hinted at in flashes. This 7f trip looks a nice compromise; enough of a test without dragging him into stamina territory. The draw should allow his jockey to find cover, and if the gaps come at the right time, a finishing effort up the rail might turn heads. The horse has the engine — he just needs the stage. Today’s contest might well be it.
15:45 Goodwood – Faustus
John Pentin; Sports Journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
When looking at the Coral Golden Rewards Shaker Handicap, one name jumps off the page not for future potential, but for rediscovered form — Faustus. This seasoned campaigner may be seven now, but he’s far from finished. He was a tidy winner at Newbury last time out, and what stands out most is how that form has already been boosted: the runner-up has scored since, and others in behind have followed suit. His last success came when racing off a lower mark in a lesser grade, but he’s not without winning form off higher figures in the past. The key factor appears to be the removal of headgear — after multiple runs with various aids, racing without them last time appeared to unlock some freshness.
That same approach is retained here. While he finds himself out of the handicap by 3lb, it’s worth noting he’s performed creditably under similar circumstances before. Stall 2 might require a little luck, but if his rider Connor Planas can find clear running room early, this bold-going sort could take some pegging back on a course that rewards early momentum. At his current odds, Faustus offers proper each-way value in a typically wide-open sprint.aulin could well be allowed to dictate matters again. That’s when he’s at his most effective, and if granted that freedom, he could prove hard to catch.
