14:10 Brighton – Heer’s Sadie

Steve Harrington; Senior Racing Editor at BettingTips4You
Rationale:

In what looks a wide-open start to the Brighton card, it’s the mare with deep local roots who could outstay them all. Heer’s Sadie isn’t just familiar with this seaside venue – she thrives here. Her tally of 20 runs at Brighton stands out starkly in this company, and even more so when you factor in her ten finishes in the frame. That level of course consistency is a rarity and gives her a distinct edge on a track that often requires specialist knowledge and adaptability.

Her form earlier in the summer highlighted she remains competitive, with back-to-back wins at Yarmouth showing she’s still got a sharp finishing kick. Although she hasn’t returned to the winner’s enclosure since, her efforts have remained honest and she now gets the assistance of a very capable apprentice in Ashley Lewis. With three victories from his last 13 mounts, he brings confidence and strong form to the saddle.

Given her familiarity with the track, the return to more suitable company, and a rider who knows how to get one home, Heer’s Sadie appears set for another bold showing. If allowed to dictate or settle comfortably early, she could well prove the one to beat.

14:50 Nottingham – Starakova

John Pentin; Sports Journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:

Starakova may not immediately catch the eye on recent numbers alone, but dismissing her based on her 804 formline would overlook vital context. This nursery debut offers a fresh angle, and stepping up to 6f could prove a turning point for a filly who has shown glimpses of ability in unfavourable setups.

At Ffos Las two starts ago, she was going nicely before being squeezed out of contention, losing all momentum and finishing well behind the field. That run is easy to forgive, given she was still travelling strongly before being hampered. Her latest performance at Sandown was more promising than the bare result suggests. Despite not featuring prominently, she finished with a bit of running left, indicating the extended trip here should play more to her strengths.

A notable factor in her favour is the booking of Kieran Shoemark, a significant upgrade in the saddle for her. The combination of nursery conditions, a more appropriate distance, and stronger assistance from the saddle all point towards a likely step forward. With a bit more room to manoeuvre and luck in running, she can leave her previous outings behind and show a truer reflection of her potential.

19:45 Sandown – Tennessee Gold

Gram Dodd; Racing Analyst at BettingTips4You
Rationale:

Those willing to give Tennessee Gold a second chance may find themselves well rewarded this evening. Having climbed 22lb in the weights last year thanks to three polished victories, the son of Mayson had all the hallmarks of a sprinter going places. His performance at Kempton in December, where he travelled powerfully and quickened up smartly, suggested a mark of 80 was still within his grasp.

This season’s return efforts haven’t yielded immediate dividends, but the context tells a more forgiving story. His reappearance came after a significant break and was clearly a fitness-builder. Then, at Newmarket, he raced away from the main action in what has since proven a red-hot contest. The quality of that race has been reinforced time and again, with numerous rivals going on to run huge races or win major handicaps.

Now down a pound and racing in a slightly calmer pool, Tennessee Gold finds himself better positioned than at any point this season. Add to that his course credentials – he won this very race 12 months ago on his sole outing at Sandown – and the case becomes stronger. The setup looks ideal, and he’s entitled to go very close with conditions in his favour once more.

14:40 Brighton – Marlay Park

Herrin Kendrick; Horse Racing Tipster at BettingTips4You
Rationale:

Marlay Park is the sort of runner who might fly under the radar here, but the drop into Class 5 company for the first time since spring significantly raises his appeal. The gelding has spent recent outings tackling stronger opposition, but now finds himself back at a level where he can be a major force.

A line can be struck through his latest performance at Epsom, where he was drawn wide and never found any cover. The circumstances worked against him from the start, and he wasn’t given a hard time once his chance was gone. Prior to that, his efforts were respectable enough to suggest he remains competitive, and it’s worth remembering he was narrowly denied at this level at Leicester in April.

Today’s addition of a first-time hood could sharpen him up at the start and help settle him into a better rhythm. Trainer Jim Boyle knows the horse well, and this looks like a considered piece of placement. With the class relief and a tactical tweak, Marlay Park should find this a more suitable challenge, and he’s capable of asserting himself late if given a fair run through the race.ditions, Orbaan appeals as a reliable, well-handicapped option. The market may not have him as the favourite, but the combination of suitable ground and a manageable rating make him a threat to all. If he gets a clear run and finds rhythm early, he could well roll back the years.
