The midweek cards on Thursday look well stocked with opportunities for punters, and our panel at BettingTips4You have narrowed the action down to a fourfold Lucky 15 that mixes class, form, and value. With racing at Chelmsford, Ffos Las, and Southwell, the evening promises plenty of intrigue, particularly for those keen on younger horses stepping into handicaps or progressive types tackling fresh challenges.
Our team of four experts have each identified a horse that looks primed to run big, and together they form a compelling Lucky 15 across the day’s schedule. Every selection has been carefully considered, with angles drawn from recent form, pedigree, and how well the horse fits the demands of the contest.
Below, each of our analysts provides both their pick and an in-depth rationale for why their choice is worthy of inclusion in this Thursday’s Lucky 15.

Reasoning This Lucky 15 combines proven track specialists and progressive improvers across three meetings. Quercus brings course form at Catterick, Gavriel adds unexposed quality, Advancing has untapped stamina potential, and Huit Reflets looks well treated for a chasing debut. Together, they provide a carefully balanced, high-value midweek accumulator. |
15:20 Chelmsford – Currahee
John Pentin; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Currahee arrives at Chelmsford in excellent order and looks to have been underestimated by the market. His performance here a fortnight ago was highly encouraging when sporting a tongue-tie for the first time. On that occasion, he tried to force the issue over six furlongs, showing plenty of early pace, but was collared late on by a rival finishing strongly. That effort suggested he had both the tactical speed and the stamina to make himself a real force when stepped back up to seven furlongs.

It’s worth remembering that his sole victory came over this trip at Leicester, where he dictated from the front and refused to be passed. The return to seven furlongs should therefore be ideal. The revised handicap mark of 63 still leaves him with room to manoeuvre, as he has not been exposed to this level for very long. With Pat Cosgrave taking the reins once again, a positive ride could see him dominate from the front and put his rivals under early pressure. Chelmsford’s track favours those who can sustain a strong gallop, and Currahee’s blend of speed and resilience makes him a strong candidate to outstay the field.
15:40 Ffos Las – Klassleader
Herrin Kendrick; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Klassleader has shaped like a horse on the cusp of landing a decent prize, and the setup at Ffos Las could be the perfect scenario for him to show his full potential. Last time at Doncaster, he produced a career-best when only denied by a neck over this same trip of one mile and four furlongs. That race has proven particularly strong since, with the winner Gran Descans defying a penalty to score again at Lingfield, and others in behind also coming out to frank the form.

The way Klassleader travelled through that Doncaster race marked him down as a horse with further progress to come. He stayed every yard of the trip and only lost out in the closing strides. A similar effort here could easily be enough to go one better. The relatively unexposed profile of this three-year-old suggests that he has plenty still to offer as he matures, and his connections will be confident this is a race he can take. With the course likely to suit a horse who travels smoothly and finds generously at the finish, Klassleader looks a rock-solid inclusion in today’s Lucky 15.
17:45 Southwell – Cotswold Cottage
Gram Dodd; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Cotswold Cottage is a mare in the form of her life, and her profile suggests she has every chance of following up her latest victory at Ffos Las. That win came with authority just three weeks ago, where she travelled sweetly before quickening clear, signalling that her handicap mark may not yet fully reflect her ability. That was only her second start since returning from a lengthy absence, and the improvement she found between those runs indicates that she’s thriving with racing.
The step up to this Class 4 twelve-furlong handicap looks a logical progression, and although she must shoulder a 7lb rise, the style of her last success suggests she remains well ahead of the assessor. Now in the care of Lambourn trainer Faye Bramley, she has been lightly campaigned but is showing the benefit of a consistent training regime. Callum Shepherd retains the ride and knows exactly how to get the best out of her, and with her pedigree pointing towards stamina and toughness, Southwell’s Tapeta surface should hold no fears. Expect her to be delivered late with a well-timed challenge, and another win looks well within her grasp.
18:15 Southwell – Best Rate
Steve Harrington; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Best Rate is a horse who continues to shape as though he is capable of better than his form figures suggest, and the Southwell mile looks set up for his strengths. His most recent effort at Newmarket was a highly encouraging one, finishing less than two lengths behind the winner in a competitive Class 4 handicap. What was notable about that performance was how strongly he was finishing, suggesting that the longer straight here will play firmly to his advantage.
The handicapper has actually eased him a pound since then, which is generous given the merit of his run. Richard Hannon’s gelding has always hinted that seven furlongs to a mile suits him best, and Southwell, though less demanding than its old Fibresand configuration, still rewards those who stay strongly through the line. Joe Leavy, an emerging rider who has already partnered him with confidence, keeps the mount and should be well placed to produce a perfectly timed late surge. Having already won on Tapeta before, Best Rate ticks the right boxes for this assignment, and if he can replicate or improve upon his last run, he will be a major player in the finish.
