The Thursday programme of racing on August 21 brings a compelling mix of action across some of the UK’s most competitive tracks, with York hosting the standout events of the afternoon while Lingfield keeps the all-weather enthusiasts entertained. The feature handicaps and juvenile races on the Knavesmire are joined by intriguing supporting contests, and Lingfield’s shorter sprint provides contrast to the stamina-sapping tests elsewhere. With competitive fields lining up, betting opportunities are plentiful, and our team at BettingTips4You have each selected one runner to combine into a Lucky 15. Four experts, four races, and four carefully considered opinions form the basis of our recommended multiple for the day.
Each tip comes with its own reasoning, balancing proven form with potential for improvement, and together they create an accumulator that offers both value and excitement. With names like Bullet Point at York, Starsong at Lingfield, the promising Tadej, and the progressive filly Timeforshowcasing, there is no shortage of interest.

Reasoning This fourfold targets horses whose set-ups improve markedly today: Explode looks well treated on an 85 opener; Concert thrives with cut; Bushwacker gains headgear and a helpful draw; Aylin upgrades on softer going. Each is positioned to progress under Doncaster’s long straight, offering a balanced Lucky 15 with upside baked in. |
15:00 York – Bullet Point
John Pentin; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
The opening leg of our Lucky 15 sees us turn to York’s 3:00 handicap, where Bullet Point is strongly fancied to make his mark in what looks a typically competitive Class 2 event. This William Haggas-trained four-year-old has been making a solid reputation for himself over middle-distance trips, combining consistency with progressive efforts in big fields. His seasonal reappearance at Newmarket was striking, as he stormed home to beat Tribal Chief by more than three lengths, marking him down as one going the right way.

Subsequent outings at Ascot only reinforced that impression. Twice he found just one too good, including at the Royal meeting in a massive thirty-runner field, where his ability to hold his position and finish powerfully stood out. That sort of experience in large, competitive handicaps is invaluable, and he looks far from exposed despite already achieving plenty.
The son of Advertise does carry an extra 3lb this time, but the hike looks manageable given the strength of his recent form. The return of Tom Marquand in the saddle is another plus, as their combination has been a fruitful one in recent starts. The overall profile suggests that Bullet Point is well-equipped to handle this challenge and could well be the one to beat.
15:10 Lingfield – Starsong
Herrin Kendrick; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Lingfield’s 3:10 fillies’ handicap over six furlongs has attracted eight runners, and while there are several arriving with recent wins, Starsong looks a particularly interesting proposition. Representing Michael Appleby’s yard, this six-year-old mare has quietly pieced together a string of consistent efforts that mark her down as a danger in this grade.

Although she broke her winning duck on turf at Brighton over a mile last time, her strongest credentials remain on artificial surfaces. She is already a five-time all-weather scorer, and the return to polytrack conditions should suit her far more than some of her rivals. Her campaign this year has been punctuated with reliable performances, boasting a sequence of form figures that include multiple placed efforts before her latest victory. Such consistency often pays dividends at Lingfield, where tactical speed and track craft are required in equal measure.
Much of the pre-race focus may fall on Twirler, who arrives chasing a hat-trick, but Starsong provides more appeal at current odds, especially when viewed through the lens of value. She doesn’t need to find much improvement to trouble the principals, and her ability to see out a mile on turf last time suggests she should finish strongly here. With a sound pace almost guaranteed, Starsong has the right tools to capitalise and looks a shrewd each-way play with plenty of upside.
14:25 York – Tadej
Gram Dodd; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
The 2:25 at York, a valuable sales race over six furlongs, has captured plenty of attention, and for good reason. Among the field, Tadej stands out as the most compelling option. Trained by Archie Watson, this two-year-old has already stamped his authority at York earlier in the season, beating Do Or Do Not, who has since advertised the form by finishing second in the Coventry Stakes. That win showcased both speed and class, vital components for success in these high-pressure juvenile races.
Tadej has since gone on to claim a Group 3 in France, a performance that confirmed his upward trajectory and underlined his credentials at a higher level. Though he must carry a 7lb penalty compared with some of his rivals, his superior form figures place him 9lb clear on official measures, suggesting he retains a decisive edge.
The colt’s uncomplicated running style and proven course ability add further layers of confidence. He has already demonstrated his adaptability under different conditions, making him less vulnerable to the uncertainties of a large field. With strong market support behind him and tangible evidence of class, Tadej looks well-positioned to justify favouritism and consolidate his reputation as one of the most exciting juveniles currently on the scene.
13:50 York – Timeforshowcasing
Steve Harrington; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
The Sky Bet Lowther Stakes at 1:50 York provides our final selection, and in a field packed with potential improvers, Timeforshowcasing is the one that appeals most. Representing Charlie Johnston’s stable, this filly has done nothing but impress in two starts to date, scoring first at Chelmsford and then following up under a penalty at Newbury with something in hand.
Her latest victory was particularly noteworthy, as she dictated from the front before stretching clear to win by over two lengths, despite showing signs of greenness late on. That ability to control a race from the front is invaluable at York, where positioning often decides results in sprint contests.
While some of her rivals bring stronger paper credentials, including the likes of Royal Fixation and Argentine Tango, both of whom have already been tested in higher company, Timeforshowcasing remains unbeaten and unexposed. At current odds, she represents the kind of filly who could easily take a significant leap forward. Purchased for a relatively modest sum, she has already shown herself to be a smart acquisition, and her trainer’s decision to aim her here instead of an easier nursery handicap suggests confidence in her potential. Stepping into Group company is undoubtedly a challenge, but she has the raw ability and tactical nous to surprise.
