14:55 Pontefract – Point Lynas

Steve Harrington; Racing Analyst at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Point Lynas returns to Pontefract with a clear objective: to replicate his impressive front-running display from last year. The six-year-old, trained by Edward Bethell, was never headed in this contest twelve months ago and now drops in class after mixing it with Group 2 company last time out. His narrow defeat at Ascot, when collared late on by Never So Brave, represents the highest calibre form in this field by a considerable margin.

In his recent outings, he’s adopted bold tactics, forging clear early and asking others to catch him late. Those efforts came at courses less suited to front-running types, making the return to Pontefract—a venue known for favouring those on the pace—particularly timely. Callum Rodriguez, back aboard after partnering him to victory here last year, knows exactly how to execute those aggressive tactics. The forecast quick ground should play into his hands, and with no other natural leaders in the line-up, Point Lynas may well get things his own way again. Dropping out of Group company into Listed class gives him the best opportunity yet to add another success to his name this season.

15:07 Uttoxeter – Young Buster

John Pentin; Sports Journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Young Buster returns to action this weekend, having been given a deliberate break since a dominant springtime display. Unlike many in the field who have been on the go throughout the summer months—often facing weaker opposition—this nine-year-old arrives fresh and with his form lines reading particularly strongly. His most recent appearance came at Kempton in April, where he dismantled the field with a commanding 24-length victory, seeing off Flegmatik in devastating style.

The form has substance, the manner of the win was visually striking, and he’s only been nudged up 4lb by the handicapper. That makes him look well treated still, particularly considering his prior efforts behind solid types last season. Jockey Jonathan Burke takes the reins again, and his familiarity with the horse is another positive. The longer trip at Uttoxeter should suit his galloping style, and a return to similar tactics could see him take control of the race from an early stage. With conditions to suit and the benefit of a mid-season refresh, Young Buster looks capable of delivering another powerful performance.

15:37 Uttoxeter – Keel Strand

Herrin Kendrick; BettingTips4You Tipster & Jump Racing Specialist
Rationale:
Keel Strand has taken off since undergoing wind surgery, and his upward momentum shows no sign of slowing. The five-year-old has strung together three consecutive victories, the last two of which came in handicaps. His most recent success, in particular, caught the eye—not just for the winning margin, but for how the form has held up since.

The runner-up on that occasion, Impecunious, returned to score next time out, underlining the strength of the race. Keel Strand travelled sweetly throughout, settled well and found plenty when asked for more in the closing stages. That type of attitude bodes well for another tough finish at Uttoxeter, where stamina is often required in abundance. His trainer appears to have found the key to him now, and under conditions that mirror his latest win, there’s every chance the run can continue. Although the handicapper has raised him again, the manner of his last victory suggests there’s more improvement to come. He’s unexposed for a five-year-old and looks very capable of defying his revised mark.

15:25 Pontefract – Raulin

Gram Dodd; Flat Racing Analyst at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Raulin is one to keep onside at Pontefract this Sunday, especially in a race where early pace appears in short supply. That should work in favour of David O’Meara’s three-year-old, who has already shown he can dominate from the front. His decisive win at Redcar in May came under similar circumstances, making all the running off a 4lb lower rating. He’s been consistent since then, running with credit at both Thirsk and Chester, despite not getting the race run to suit on either occasion.

His latest outing is easy to forgive—there was no real gallop to speak of, and it became a sprint from the turn. That scenario clearly didn’t play to his strengths. However, back at a track that rewards those who dictate, and with Danny Tudhope back in the saddle, he’s likely to adopt aggressive tactics once more. Pontefract’s layout is ideal for those who like to control things from the front, and with a favourable draw and no obvious challengers for the lead, Raulin could well be allowed to dictate matters again. That’s when he’s at his most effective, and if granted that freedom, he could prove hard to catch.
