The Sunday racing action offers punters an enticing blend of handicaps and pattern races across northern courses, and our BettingTips4You panel have each pinpointed a horse they believe can deliver. This week’s Lucky 15 combines four different fancies into one accumulator, giving readers the chance to maximise value from carefully selected single bets. Each expert has weighed up the form, analysed the conditions, and identified a runner primed to strike on August 17.
From Pontefract to Southwell, the day’s cards are competitive, but our team have dug into the detail to highlight horses who stand out either through proven course form, favourable marks, or strong progress in recent outings. While the fields contain several dangers, the consistency and profiles of our four highlighted contenders make them compelling inclusions for this Lucky 15.

15:12 Pontefract – Hale End to Win
John Pentin; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Hale End may not yet have registered a win this season, but his latest effort at Redcar suggested a horse about to find his stride again. Despite finishing fifth, he encountered clear traffic problems in the final furlong and had to be reined back when making ground, leaving the impression he had more to offer.
The gelding is now racing from a mark 5lb lower than the rating he successfully overcame at Ayr last year, and that drop in the weights makes him look very competitively treated. His trainer, Michael Dods, has often prepared sprinters to peak around this time of year, and the booking of Connor Beasley, who knows the horse well, strengthens his case.

At five years of age, Hale End combines experience with enough freshness to still be improving. With conditions expected to suit and a fair handicap mark in his favour, he looks ready to convert recent promise into victory at Pontefract.
16:42 Pontefract – Kentucky River to Win
Herrin Kendrick; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Kentucky River has been steadily finding his feet since stepping into handicaps, and his run at Doncaster last month confirmed he is progressing in the right direction. That day he was asked to tackle this trip for the first time, and he responded by finishing strongly behind Belgravian, a horse who franked the form by winning at Haydock next time from a much higher rating.

Although Kentucky River himself has gone up a few pounds for that effort, he still appears well placed in this grade. His trainer, Ollie Sangster, has spoken of his scope to improve with distance, and this Pontefract contest looks an ideal opportunity for him to gain a deserved first win. Jason Watson retains the ride and will be expected to hold him up before using his stamina late on, something that worked so well at Doncaster.
With only six career runs under his belt, Kentucky River is unexposed and carries the profile of a three-year-old who can climb the handicap ranks. Everything suggests that Pontefract could be the stage where he delivers.
16:22 Southwell – Philanthropist to Win
Gram Dodd; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Philanthropist has already shown a clear affinity for artificial surfaces, winning on both of his previous Tapeta starts. He scored easily in a Newcastle maiden before following up with a narrow yet authoritative course-and-distance victory at Southwell in April. That performance has been significantly boosted since, as the runner-up has climbed the ratings after landing multiple wins.
Since then, Philanthropist has been restricted to turf, where he found conditions less favourable, yet those defeats have kept his mark only slightly higher than his previous all-weather success. Now returned to a surface where he is two from two, he looks primed to rediscover his winning ways.
Daniel Muscutt keeps the ride, and his calm handling of this horse has been evident in both previous wins. With a straightforward racing style and a proven record at the track, Philanthropist enters this handicap with outstanding credentials. Back on Tapeta, he should show his true ability and confirm his standing as a progressive three-year-old.
15:42 Pontefract – Stormy Impact to Win
Steve Harrington; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Stormy Impact has made her mark in handicaps this season, and her Wolverhampton success demonstrated that she is capable of carrying her form into higher company. That Racing League event was not run entirely to suit, as she was forced wide turning for home, yet she quickened impressively to hit the front in the final furlong and never looked in danger of being caught.
Although her forays into big-field Ascot handicaps did not produce results, she was not given a fair run on either occasion. When placed in a slightly calmer environment, she showed her class. Stepping into listed company is a challenge, but her weight-adjusted figures put her several pounds clear of her rivals.
The manner of her Wolverhampton win suggested that she has untapped potential still to be drawn out. With conditions to suit and the Fahey yard in good form, Stormy Impact arrives at Pontefract ready to prove she belongs at this higher level.
