Reasoning
This Lucky 15 includes two flat selections at Newmarket and two jumps picks from Market Rasen, combining emerging talent and seasoned handicappers. Spirited Style and Ballysax Hank bring Group potential and fresh legs, while Siam Fox and Nickelforce offer track-savvy value. All four have strong claims based on form and conditions.

13:50 Sandown – West Acre

Steve Harrington; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Returning to British soil after an eye-catching campaign in the Middle East, West Acre lines up in the Coral Charge with plenty in his favour. Steve Harrington believes this lightly raced sprinter has been underestimated by the market and is capable of outclassing today’s rivals.

This son of Mehmas proved himself in the Dubai winter season, shattering the Meydan five-furlong track record in Group 2 company. He also went close over six furlongs alongside Symbol Of Honour, who is now a leading contender for next week’s July Cup. West Acre’s recent outing at Royal Ascot didn’t pan out ideally due to a wide draw in the King Charles III Stakes, where he never got involved from his isolated position. Nevertheless, that effort came after a lengthy absence, and he is expected to improve significantly with that run behind him.

Now returning to more familiar territory and dropping in class, he finds conditions to his liking. With race fitness now on his side and the draw looking far kinder this time, this could be the perfect scenario for him to showcase his real ability. Back over five furlongs, and with a solid pace assured, he’s a major player under these circumstances.

14:05 Haydock – Many Men

John Pentin; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
John Pentin has opted to side with a progressive young stayer in Many Men, who looks well suited to the extended 1m6f three-year-old handicap at Haydock. A winner of three from his last five starts, this colt appears to be thriving now he’s found his niche over staying distances.

Last time out at Doncaster, he tackled this trip for the first time and delivered a performance full of promise. Although briefly outpaced when the tempo lifted, his stamina truly kicked in late to reel in rivals, and he powered clear through the line, suggesting even further progression is possible. Prior to that, his third at York was strong form, with the winner later beating the Irish Derby runner-up at Royal Ascot, and the second also making a splash at the royal meeting.

The pedigree supports his upward trajectory too. As a son of Study Of Man, he’s bred to get better with time and distance, and this slower ground should bring out the best in him. With a race profile indicating he’s still ahead of the handicapper, he holds compelling claims. In a race full of potential but short on established form, Many Men’s proven stamina and solid foundation make him the standout.

17:15 Sandown – Ancient Rome

Herrin Kendrick; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
For Herrin Kendrick, Ancient Rome is the value angle in the always competitive Coral Challenge at Sandown. A familiar name from elite juvenile races in France, he has gradually transitioned into a smart handicapper on both sides of the Atlantic and seems primed for a big run here.

Now trained by Charlie Hills, the five-year-old began his campaign with a fair effort at Meydan but caught the eye when running a cracker in the Royal Hunt Cup at Ascot. Positioned in midfield early, he travelled fluently and tracked the well-fancied My Cloud but was denied a clear run when needing it most. Forced to switch wide, he lost valuable momentum before staying on again in the closing stages. That display confirmed he’s operating near peak form, and crucially, he’s been eased 2lb in the ratings since.

Back over a mile and with a race likely to be run at a brisk pace, he can pounce late under Jamie Spencer, who rides him with aplomb. Ancient Rome remains well handicapped—5lb lower than his last winning mark in this type of race—and is likely to be ideally suited by the tempo and track layout. If he sees daylight at the right time, he should go close.

15:35 Sandown – Ombudsman

Gram Dodd; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
In the day’s feature race, Gram Dodd is firmly siding with Ombudsman to land the Group 1 Coral-Eclipse and confirm his position as a top-class middle-distance performer. The four-year-old arrives here off the back of a commanding success in the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot, where he surged past a high-quality field with a stunning turn of foot.

Before that, he had shaped with promise over this very course and distance in the Brigadier Gerard, finishing second after a slow start and a less-than-ideal passage. That effort, however, set the stage for what followed at Ascot, where he announced himself as a leading performer at this level. Rated 7lb clear of his closest rival on official figures, he brings a level of class that none of his opponents have yet matched.

The ground will be quick, which suits him perfectly, and his profile indicates that he’s still improving. Despite the quality of opposition, he holds all the aces—distance, track, form, and rating. Backing up a Royal Ascot Group 1 with another win is never easy, but this horse appears to be built for it. If he turns up in the same form, it’ll take a serious effort to stop him.
