15:12 Market Rasen – Ballysax Hank
Herrin Kendrick; Racing Analyst at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Ballysax Hank returns to fences on Saturday after a productive spring campaign over hurdles, and this shift in discipline could bring the best out of him. Representing Gavin Cromwell’s shrewd yard, the six-year-old heads into this competitive handicap chase with untapped potential still very much intact. His previous runs over fences showed enough ability, including a straightforward win at Downpatrick. Since then, he’s placed twice in decent Irish hurdle handicaps, with his latest third at Bellewstown confirming he’s in good order.
This will be his first venture into British handicap chasing, but crucially he has been handed a reasonable mark of 128. More importantly, Timeform’s assessment includes a ‘p’, indicating the strong likelihood of improvement yet to come. The addition of Harry Cobden, who knows how to navigate Market Rasen and has lifted this very race twice before, further boosts confidence. With many of his rivals looking a touch exposed at this level, Ballysax Hank arrives fresher and potentially better handicapped. Market support suggests he’s fancied, and given the profile, he looks well-placed to make a serious impact.

4.55 Newmarket – Spirited Style
Gram Dodd; Flat Racing Editor at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Charlie Appleby unleashes a genuinely exciting filly in the shape of Spirited Style in the Listed Aphrodite Stakes at Newmarket. Though she came second on debut, the daughter of multiple Group 1 winner Wild Illusion left a strong impression that day and went on to justify that early promise with a commanding win at Haydock on her next outing.
What impressed most on that occasion was the way she settled, tracked the pace, and then stretched clear over ten furlongs, showing the kind of gear change usually reserved for high-class horses. She now steps up in distance, and this extended trip is likely to suit her even more given her pedigree and running style. In a field where some rivals may already have shown their hand, Spirited Style offers a fresher profile with a ceiling that hasn’t yet been reached.
Understudy might set the form standard on paper following her second at Ascot, but Appleby’s filly is the one open to major progress. Billy Loughnane’s booking signals intent, and if she handles this rise in class, Spirited Style could be marking herself out as one to follow through the rest of the season.
18:35 Newmarket – Siam Fox
John Pentin; Sports Journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Siam Fox may not be a newcomer to the handicap ranks, but his recent run over course and distance suggested he’s back in form and ready to strike. Trained by Kevin Frost, the experienced seven-year-old has always been capable at this level, and Saturday’s contest represents a clear opportunity given how favourably the handicapper has now treated him based on his past achievements.
He turned in his best effort of the season last time out, only narrowly missing out in a similar contest here at Newmarket. Importantly, that run confirmed that he still retains a sharp turn of foot and the ability to travel powerfully through a race. With the ground expected to ride good, conditions are firmly in his favour, and the familiarity of the course—where he’s performed with credit before—should help him settle and finish strongly.
Although there are a couple of unexposed horses in the field, none have the proven trackcraft that Siam Fox brings. At around 5/1, he appeals as a reliable and well-handicapped option with the form to get back in the winner’s enclosure, especially if replicating his latest effort.
17:00 Market Rasen – Nickelforce
Steve Harrington; National Hunt Contributor at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Nickelforce is reunited with Charlie Case on Saturday, and that could be the catalyst for another strong showing. The six-year-old was a fine second here last time in a tougher grade and now drops slightly in class while also benefitting from Case’s 3lb claim. Adjusting for that claim, Nickelforce is effectively 6lb better off compared to his last Market Rasen run—a race where he looked likely to win before getting caught late on.
The synergy between horse and rider can’t be overlooked. The only previous time Case has been aboard Nickelforce, they combined to score impressively at Ludlow last October. That win also came at a right-handed venue, suggesting that today’s track configuration will once again play to the gelding’s strengths. He remains on a fair mark, and with track experience on his side, Nickelforce is expected to go very close if reproducing that recent form.
The presence of rivals carrying penalties or returning from long absences gives the Case-trained runner a consistency edge. If the pair get into a rhythm early, Nickelforce has every chance of finishing this race in front.
