16:23 Kempton – Nasebah

John Pentin; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Nasebah made her debut less than three weeks ago at Newcastle, where she showed clear signs of raw ability despite her inexperience. She was just over two lengths behind the winner in that contest, and her awkwardness through the race was as much down to greenness as ability. Still, she stayed on well in the closing stages, shaping like one that would benefit greatly from the run.

Stepping up to eleven furlongs now looks ideal, and the added distance should suit her developing profile. Crucially, she’s bred to improve – by the prolific Kingman and out of a mare by Giant’s Causeway, stamina and class are in her bloodline. That alone gives her an edge over most of her rivals in this maiden fillies’ event.

The presence of the champion jockey this time round is a key factor. He wasn’t on board at Newcastle, but his booking for today signifies intent from the yard. Trained by the Gosden team at Clarehaven, she’s surely been progressing at home. With natural improvement and the run under her belt, this could be the day she makes a statement.

18:00 Kempton – Marchogion

Herrin Kendrick; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Marchogion enters this Conditions race off the back of an emphatic success at Chester, where he dominated from the front and galloped clear for a commanding victory over six furlongs. That was a marked step forward, and despite the rise in grade here, his form entitles him to take this step up in class in his stride.

The Mehmas colt now returns to the all-weather and could easily progress again. What was most striking at Chester wasn’t just the margin of victory, but the ease with which he pulled away from the field. He had the race won a furlong out, and Oisin Murphy never had to get too serious with him.

He’s now back under Murphy, and this long-standing partnership with Andrew Balding is one that frequently yields dividends. The structure of this field makes him well positioned tactically too. He could take control from the outset and dictate matters. Given the standard of his recent win, and with rivals around him either needing to prove themselves or returning from breaks, Marchogion may well find himself a cut above at this level once again.

16:28 Warwick – Arqoob

Steve Harrington; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Arqoob has a clear case to answer for on paper after an underwhelming jumps campaign last term, but closer scrutiny tells a more promising story. He had three hurdle starts last season where he failed to get near the frame, but his mark has plummeted as a result – now running from a rating eight pounds below the one he held when finishing second at Ascot in a stronger contest eighteen months ago.

Since those disappointments, he’s been kept busy on the Flat with some solid efforts, most notably landing a win at Newmarket in July. That run hinted at a horse who retains plenty of enthusiasm and ability, and it may have served as the perfect confidence boost ahead of a return to timber.

Trainer Lucy Wadham has opted for Tom Cannon here, and he’s an excellent partner to bring out the best in this kind of horse. The Warwick layout should suit his rhythm, and if he can reproduce even a fraction of his Ascot form from earlier in his jumps career, he has to go close. A rejuvenated horse on a handy mark, Arqoob looks poised to strike under optimal conditions.

17:25 Catterick – Lightning Tiger

Gram Dodd; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Connections have been patient with Lightning Tiger, allowing him to find his feet across three starts before opening his handicap account. This approach is often a signal of intent, with long-term gains in mind, and the market may be underestimating his chances on handicap debut.

On his latest outing at Doncaster, over a stiff ten furlongs, he was not quick away but made pleasing late ground to finish fifth. That effort suggested he has more stamina than speed at this stage, and the additional yardage today could unlock significant improvement. A mark of 71 for his handicap debut looks fair, and the signs from that Doncaster run are that it might be generous.

Callum Rodriguez retains the ride, and he’ll be aware that this horse needs to be kept close enough to strike turning in. The Catterick circuit, with its sharper bends and downhill finish, could play to his strengths if he’s ridden positively. With a step up in trip and an opening mark that doesn’t look harsh, Lightning Tiger appears ready to deliver on his promise.
