Trained by Tim Easterby and partnered again by David Allan, the filly has shown a high level of consistency across six runs, winning three and placing on the other three occasions. Her most recent effort, a solid third in a six-furlong Group 2 at Newmarket, provides strong evidence that she’s capable of mixing it at this level—and over shorter too.
It’s worth noting that although she has been tackling six furlongs of late, her strongest form arguably comes at five. She’s landed two races over the minimum trip already this season, including a narrow win in a hot Beverley conditions race where she got the better of Meelaf. On pedigree, she is bred for sharp speed being by Mattmu out of a mare by Showcasing, both stallions renowned for producing sprinters.
Another major plus is the allowance she receives as a filly, which could prove decisive in such a closely matched field. With just 9st on her back compared to the 9st 3lb carried by her male rivals, she’s well in on the weights. Her draw in stall one may also allow her to bag the rail, a factor that’s often decisive in races run at this breakneck tempo.
This field contains multiple speedy juveniles, but Argentine Tango’s proven record under pressure, her balance of speed and durability, and the tactical edge granted by her allowance all contribute to making her a very strong contender. With several rivals still needing to prove they can deliver at this level or over this distance, she looks the most reliable option at the current prices.
