Wednesday’s Accumulator | |
69/1 - odds when tipped | |
Reasoning This Wednesday’s accumulator combines a promising novice dropper in Crystal Pier, a well-handicapped sprinter in Miss Rainbow, and a progressive debutant in Ottawa. All three have form, angles, and conditions to suit. Each expert sees value in their selection, and together, they form a strong and balanced treble for midweek success. |
17:15 Doncaster – Crystal Pier
John Pentin; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Crystal Pier looked like a filly with plenty left in the locker when making her racecourse bow at Newbury last month in a Class 2 novice event. Despite finishing only third, the performance spoke volumes when you dug into the circumstances surrounding the run.
This well-bred daughter of Palace Pier was awkward from the gates and gave away several lengths before finding her stride. Through the midsection of the race, she made up significant ground but was then forced to make her challenge from an unhelpfully wide position to avoid bunching. Despite all this, she surged home to finish just a head behind the second and only two lengths behind the winner – not a bad effort considering how the race unfolded.
Now switching to a Class 4 event, she’s pitched into much calmer waters. The competition looks less taxing, with only Sir Mark Prescott’s Aleen offering credible resistance on paper. That rival, while likely to improve, still has to step up considerably. Another newcomer from the Ferguson yard could run well but must be exceptional to trouble Crystal Pier if the latter builds on her first start.
Rossa Ryan keeps the ride and his booking once again gives confidence. There’s a strong feeling that this filly will know a lot more today, and if she breaks more efficiently, she could make light work of this lesser field. With conditions in her favour, she looks set to justify short odds and lay down a marker for bigger targets later this summer.

17:00 Catterick – Miss Rainbow
Herrin Kendrick; Racing Analyst at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Miss Rainbow has been a real flagbearer for Tracy Waggott’s team this season, contributing to what’s already become a landmark campaign for the stable. After a couple of quiet years, the yard has burst into life, and this four-year-old filly has played no small part in that resurgence.
The application of a visor has seemingly unlocked her potential, resulting in a stunning purple patch in June where she rattled off three consecutive victories at Thirsk, Newcastle, and here at Catterick. On each occasion, she adopted front-running tactics and proved difficult to reel in – a clear sign that she’s thriving when allowed to dictate terms.
Last time at Hamilton, the drop to the minimum trip didn’t appear to suit. She looked under pressure early but stayed on admirably late to snatch third. That effort suggested she was far from finished, and the step back up to six furlongs should suit her down to the ground. With a decent draw and conditions to her liking, she has every chance of bouncing straight back to form.
Apprentice William Pyle, who’s ridden her to victory before, is back in the saddle and claims a useful 3lb. With little early pace among the opposition, Miss Rainbow could get the lead again—and if she does, she may take some catching. At 5/2, she looks like excellent value to regain the winning thread.
20:30 Doncaster – Ottawa
Gram Dodd; Irish Racing Correspondent at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Ottawa makes his handicap debut this evening and arrives as a potentially well-treated individual. After three novice runs where he performed with plenty of promise, he’s been gelded and now steps into a more suitable environment from an opening mark of 70.
On debut, he far exceeded expectations when outrunning his 50-1 odds to finish a strong fourth. He backed that up by chasing home Brave Byreflection—who’s since won again impressively off a mark of 72—giving that piece of form real substance. His most recent third also came with mitigation, as a slipped saddle compromised his ability to run to full capacity.
Tonight’s race marks his first outing on turf, but his pedigree offers no concerns about the switch in surface. In fact, his close relations all fared well on grass and were rated above the level he starts from. That suggests he may well be on a lenient mark and could progress quickly now handicapping.
He represents a yard that tends to do well with this type of profile, and any improvement from his first three efforts—especially considering the gear change—could see him prove difficult to beat. He’s a horse with more to come and looks ready to show it.
