Thursday’s evening racing offers punters an appealing mix of novice contests and handicaps across the all-weather and turf tracks, with Kempton and Chelmsford delivering several races packed with intrigue. Kempton stages two novice contests for lightly raced or unexposed types, where pedigrees and recent form are the key clues. Over at Chelmsford, a seller brings together a collection of horses trying to get their heads in front again, often after mixed campaigns, and it is the type of race where a drop in class can prove decisive.
Our BettingTips4You experts John Pentin, Herrin Kendrick and Gram Dodd have studied the card in depth and combined their strongest fancies into an horse racing accumulator. Each selection has been carefully chosen not simply on bare form but also considering pedigree, recent runs, trainer intent and the conditions expected on the day. Below, they outline their reasoning behind three confident calls.

Thursday’s Accumulator | |
58/1 - odds when tipped | |
Reasoning This accumulator brings together three confident selections on Thursday’s card. Khafar holds a clear edge with debut experience, St Mawes looks primed to strike off a falling mark with Oisin Murphy aboard, and Divine Legacy finds her best chance in a weaker seller. Together, they create a balanced yet strong multiple bet. |
18:45 Kempton – Khafar
John Pentin; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Khafar brings invaluable experience into this novice for two-year-old fillies, and that alone gives her a strong edge in a race full of untried rivals. Her debut at Newbury three weeks ago was eye-catching, finishing second after running green early before finding her stride in the closing stages. That contest is usually a reliable pointer to quality, and the depth of the field that day suggests her performance was well above average for a first outing.

While Jim Crowley was on board at Newbury, it will be James Doyle who takes the reins here. Doyle is more than capable of making a seamless switch, and his tactical awareness should ensure the filly breaks more sharply and gets a smoother trip. Charlie Hills’ yard have been turning out consistent juveniles of late, and their runners tend to progress markedly from first to second start.
The opposition includes a debutant from Godolphin with obvious potential, but untested horses often lack the race-hardness needed for Kempton’s turning six furlongs. With Khafar expected to learn plenty from her opening run, she should be able to sit closer to the pace this time before using her stamina to press home her advantage. That combination of track experience, high-class connections and an upward profile makes her a very appealing pick for this race.
19:15 Kempton – St Mawes
Herrin Kendrick; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
St Mawes is a gelded son of Wootton Bassett who looks poised to take a major step forward in his second run since the operation. Though winless in five attempts so far, he has hinted at ability, shaping as if a breakthrough was not far away. His most recent runs suggest that a return to a fair mark and the benefit of experience could finally put him in the frame for victory.
The gelding starts here off a reduced rating of 70, having begun handicapping from 74, and that easing of the burden places him in a winnable bracket. His latest start hinted at progress despite not managing to land a blow, and now he has the services of Oisin Murphy, who has been riding with remarkable confidence and precision in recent weeks. Murphy’s strength in the finish could be exactly what St Mawes needs to get across the line in front.
Emma Lavelle, better known for her jumps runners, has clearly seen fit to persist with this three-year-old on the flat, which suggests he has shown plenty at home. A return to Kempton, a fair surface that rewards balance and pace, may help unlock the ability he has been threatening to show. Given his sliding mark, added maturity and the positive jockey booking, St Mawes makes plenty of appeal to open his account in this evening handicap.
17:25 Chelmsford – Divine Legacy
Gram Dodd; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Divine Legacy looks ready to bounce back at Chelmsford in this low-grade seller where many of her rivals arrive with inconsistent records. The three-year-old filly has shown ability on turf, particularly when finishing a close second at Doncaster two runs back, suggesting there is more to come if she gets the right set-up. The step into a selling event represents a drop in quality, and that alone increases her chance of landing a first success of the year.
Her sire Siyouni has produced plenty of offspring that adapt well to artificial surfaces, and that pedigree influence should help her cope with Chelmsford’s polytrack. The fact that none of the others in the line-up have a proven record here levels the playing field and enhances her prospects further. With Ryan Sexton taking the ride, she will have assistance from a capable pilot who understands how to get the best out of lightly raced fillies.
Julie Camacho has opted to place her here after a slightly disappointing effort last time out, but the drop in grade looks significant. Against rivals who either lack consistency or are being tested at new venues, Divine Legacy has the right blend of experience, stamina and tactical speed to make her presence felt. This race does not look strong, and she has every chance to capitalise on the opportunity.
