Reasoning
This Friday’s accumulator features a highly regarded juvenile, a rejuvenated handicap mare, and an in-form stayer who has been knocking on the door. With Ascot and Thirsk providing the stage, the treble blends short-priced strength with mid-range value to create an appealing bet that holds genuine each-way and win potential.

17:40 Yarmouth – Papagei

John Pentin; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
With ground conditions set to have a bit of cut in them at the Norfolk track, Papagei could be the one to take advantage. A previous winner here, this four-year-old gelding from James Ferguson’s stable has a profile that blends course form and consistency. His recent performance at Salisbury caught the eye—just denied by half a length in a similarly competitive handicap, that effort came off a mark of 79. He finds himself racing today from just 1lb higher, and that marginal rise looks very manageable considering how close he went.

His overall record reads three wins from 16 runs, but he seems to save his best for courses like this. Ground with some ease won’t hinder him either; he has shown he can operate on good-to-soft going. Richard Kingscote, who guided Desert Crown to Derby glory and has major international assignments ahead, takes the reins. The jockey booking alone speaks volumes, and Papagei’s recent Racing Post Rating was among the best he’s recorded. At the current price, he offers excellent value in a field that doesn’t boast many standouts.

18:40 Yarmouth – Arctic Dawn

Herrin Kendrick; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Stepping up to handicap company last time finally saw Arctic Dawn break his maiden, and the signs are he might just be warming up. Representing Daniel and Claire Kubler, this four-year-old son of Blue Point arrives in top shape, having scored with something in hand at Ffos Las just over a month ago. That win followed a fine effort in defeat when fourth in a strong York handicap—finishing close behind the highly-rated Mum’s Tipple—and that performance is particularly relevant given the depth of that field.

What’s most encouraging is how much he seems to have come on for that York effort, finding more when asked under pressure at Ffos Las and seeing his race out strongly. Now rated 80, he’s only 3lb higher than that York performance, and based on his recent upward curve, that may still leave him a few pounds in hand. He’s handled softer going in the past without issue, and the race conditions look ideal. With Kingscote in the saddle once again and the horse peaking at just the right time, Arctic Dawn shapes as a prime contender to go back-to-back.

19:02 Newbury – Who Is Alice

Gram Dodd; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
If there’s a juvenile improving at just the right moment, it’s surely Who Is Alice. Her two initial starts gave hints of ability, but it was the third appearance—stepping up in trip to seven furlongs at Chepstow—where the penny truly dropped. On that occasion, she took the bull by the horns, dictating from the front under Rose Dawes and making every yard count in an authoritative win. That performance marked a significant leap forward and hinted that the longer distance suited her style far more.

This time she enters a nursery for the first time off an opening mark of 69, and that may underestimate her. With proven ability to lead, travel and stay on, she should be able to control proceedings if allowed to dictate again. Her trainer Mick Channon has been around long enough to know how to place his fillies, and in this company, Alice finds herself in a very workable scenario. Conditions at Newbury should suit, and with a 5lb claimer already proven on her back, she can carry the confidence of her recent success into a higher level. Back-to-back wins look a real possibility.
