Reasoning
This three-leg acca combines proven form and strong value. El Cordobes and Opera Ballo boast rock-solid form lines and favourable race conditions, while Comical Point is a potential improver stepping up in trip. Together, this treble offers genuine win chances across different profiles and race types, with great odds for a big return.

2:25 Newmarket – Comical Point

John Pentin; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:

The Group 2 July Stakes over six furlongs is shaping up to be fiercely contested, and Comical Point looks a lively outsider who could spring a surprise. Representing the in-form Andrew Balding yard, this son of Blue Point arrives here with more substance than his price might suggest. On debut, he showed maturity beyond his years to make all the running and fend off a fancied rival at Salisbury. That victory marked the yard’s first juvenile success of the campaign, and he was immediately stepped up to Royal Ascot, contesting the Norfolk Stakes.

Despite being up against some of the most promising two-year-olds in the country, Comical Point wasn’t disgraced, finishing a respectable fifth just four lengths behind Charles Darwin. It was notable how he stayed on willingly without being fully extended by Oisin Murphy, suggesting there’s more to come. That effort came over five furlongs, but everything about his style suggests six will be his optimum.

Now returning to a more galloping track and granted a slightly easier test of pace, he has the potential to take advantage if the leading market contenders—Maximized and Brussels—get embroiled in an early duel. If Murphy can conserve energy early and ask questions late, Comical Point could go very close at a rewarding price.

3:35 Newmarket – El Cordobes

Herrin Kendrick; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:

The Princess Of Wales’s Stakes has a reputation for tripping up heavily backed favourites, and El Cordobes might be the one to continue that trend. Priced around 7/1, he represents both value and untapped potential at this level. Though on official figures he has something to find with the market leaders, it’s a race that has repeatedly produced upsets—and El Cordobes brings a compelling form line with him.

His most eye-catching performance came on Newmarket’s Rowley Mile in May, where he made light work of decent opposition in a competitive handicap. That race has since worked out extremely well, with the runner-up French Master going on to register wins at Goodwood and Royal Ascot. Back on a similar surface and distance, El Cordobes looks ideally placed to capitalise.

His subsequent runs didn’t quite go to plan, but context matters. The step up to 1m6f at York stretched him beyond his stamina limits, while his effort in the Group 3 Aston Park saw him run honestly under pressure from stronger stayers. Here, over his preferred trip of a mile and a half and back on a course where he’s thrived, he could easily bounce back.

With William Buick riding and potentially chasing a landmark 2,000th British win on the day, there’s every incentive for a bold front-running ride. If he dictates from the outset, this son of Nathaniel may just prove very hard to pass.

4:45 Newmarket – Opera Ballo

Gram Dodd; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:

Few horses on Thursday’s card bring a more progressive profile than Opera Ballo, who lines up in the Listed Sir Henry Cecil Stakes over a mile. This colt, trained by a team known for improving their horses with racing, has only tasted defeat once in four starts—and even that came in a red-hot renewal of the Craven Stakes.

That sixth-place finish is far from a blot on his record. The winner of that race, Field Of Gold, has since proven to be a top-level operator, placing in both the 2,000 Guineas and winning the Irish version before bagging the St James’s Palace. With such names emerging from that Craven, Opera Ballo’s effort becomes all the more commendable.

Since that run, he’s improved again, producing a commanding display at Sandown in the Heron Stakes. Beating Bay City Roller by over two lengths, he barely came off the bridle and was always in control. The form from that race has already been upheld, with the runner-up running second again in a Group 2 at Saint-Cloud.

Yes, he shoulders a 3lb penalty for that Listed win, but it seems unlikely to anchor him. He’s tactically versatile, well-balanced for Newmarket’s undulations, and has an engine that suggests there’s more to come. With a good draw and confidence high, Opera Ballo looks a strong candidate to notch another win before stepping into Group company later in the season.
