Horse Racing Accumulator Tips; Sunday August 17 – Three Strong Picks for a Big Return

The Sunday programme promises to be an exciting one for punters with quality racing across both turf and the all-weather. Pontefract hosts a strong card with its stiff five-furlong course providing a stern test for sprinters, while Southwell’s Tapeta surface is the setting for competitive maiden and handicap action. Across these two venues, our BettingTips4You experts have each identified one horse they believe has an excellent chance of delivering, and we have combined them into an horse racing accumulator to give readers a shot at maximising their returns.

The three selections all bring something different to the table. One is a filly with proven front-running ability who looks to dominate again from the front at Pontefract. Another is a Godolphin runner returning from a break, whose debut effort suggests she is above average and capable of breaking her maiden on the all-weather. Finally, a progressive stayer at Pontefract is fancied to show his potential over a testing trip, with his latest run already looking stronger after the form was franked.

Together, they form a treble with strong claims, each backed by clear reasoning and form evidence. Below, our team of experts provide their rationale for each pick.

Reasoning
This accumulator brings together three well-handicapped and progressive horses. Miss Hathaway looks ready to dominate again from the front at Pontefract, Warm Summer returns with strong maiden form to her name, and Kentucky River continues to progress over staying trips. Combined, they form a treble with serious winning potential.

17:12 Pontefract – Miss Hathaway to Win

John Pentin; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Miss Hathaway looked a mare in command when returning to the winners’ enclosure last time in a Class 5 at Thirsk. She travelled prominently from the outset, controlling the fractions with ease, and when asked to extend in the straight, she quickly settled matters to win with something up her sleeve. Although raised 5lb for that success, her previous third at Thirsk in June suggests she is still well handicapped. That run came from a wide draw, and she still managed to finish close up in a race that has since worked out positively, with multiple subsequent winners emerging.

The return to Pontefract is another plus, as she has already made all over this course and distance. This is a track that favours bold front-runners, and with her natural speed, she looks well placed to repeat those tactics. Connor Beasley knows her well and should be able to bounce her out and dictate once more. If she gets into a rhythm, the opposition may struggle to peg her back. With form lines holding up and her mark still reasonable, Miss Hathaway looks a solid choice to follow up.

14:52 Southwell – Warm Summer to Win

Herrin Kendrick; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Warm Summer represents the powerful Godolphin operation and brings strong credentials despite being lightly raced. Her only start came at Lingfield last September, where she finished second behind Cathedral, a horse who has since gone on to be rated well into triple figures. That effort immediately put her in the notebook as a filly of significant promise.

Having been kept fresh since, she now makes her return in a Southwell maiden over six furlongs, a step up in distance which looks tailor-made given her pedigree by Blue Point. With Cieren Fallon booked, there is confidence that she will be ready to do herself justice first time back. The presence of Rock Iguana from the Amo Racing team adds competition, but he looked green on debut at Wolverhampton and may still be learning his trade. Warm Summer’s professional performance on her first outing suggests she will be more forward than her main rival.

Saeed bin Suroor does not waste runners at this level and will be keen to land a winner at Southwell after a gap at the course. With her ability already proven in a decent maiden, Warm Summer is expected to take a significant step forward and secure her first career win.

16:42 Pontefract – Kentucky River to Win

Gram Dodd; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Kentucky River shaped like a thorough stayer when stepped up to two miles at Doncaster last month. He may have found one too strong in Belgravian on that occasion, but the form has since been boosted significantly, with the winner bolting up again at Haydock in higher company. Kentucky River himself was clear of the remainder, pulling three and a quarter lengths away from the third, which underlines the merit of his effort.

Bred to excel over stamina tests – by Derby winner Camelot and a half-brother to Melbourne Cup hero Protectionist – Kentucky River is only just beginning to fulfil his potential at staying trips. His mark has risen only 2lb for that Doncaster performance, leaving him on a competitive weight for this Pontefract assignment.

He is also the only three-year-old in the field, which means he carries the classic generation’s allowance against older rivals, a notable edge in a demanding handicap. With Jason Watson in the saddle once more, he can be delivered late to make his stamina count on Pontefract’s testing uphill finish. Given his progressive profile, he looks a horse capable of moving through the grades, and this race offers an excellent platform to take the next step.
