15:00 Ascot – Aalto

John Pentin; Sports Journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Aalto was extremely unfortunate not to collect in the Bunbury Cup, pushing a high-class rival right to the line and only just missing out in the closing strides. That was a fierce contest, and the performance showed he’s operating at the peak of his powers. He now turns up at Ascot, a venue where he hasn’t always produced his best, but comes here with conditions in his favour and the strongest form in the field.

Ian Williams’ decision to engage William Buick for the ride adds a new dimension. Buick’s presence indicates the yard’s confidence and should ensure Aalto gets every assistance from the saddle. Aalto is 5lb well-in on official figures after that Newmarket second, and he can take advantage of that before his revised mark kicks in. Drawn low, which may not be ideal, but his ability to sit just behind the pace and finish strongly makes him a dangerous opponent in the closing stages. If he reproduces his last effort, he’ll go very close here.

14:00 York – Aleezdancer

Herrin Kendrick; Form Analyst at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Aleezdancer returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion at Pontefract last time out, snapping a winless run that stretched back a full year. Dropping to a mark of 87 clearly did the trick, and more importantly, a bold change in tactics saw him blast out in front and control the race from the outset. That aggressive approach appeared to unlock his confidence, and there was no sign of him fading or weakening when asked for a final push.

Back at York, where he previously won off 91, he’s racing off the same mark again—making this a very workable handicap figure for a sprinter proven at the track. With Kevin Stott back in the saddle and Kevin Ryan’s ability to maintain peak condition in his sprinters, Aleezdancer looks primed to follow up. There are other dangers in the field, with the likes of Toyotomi and Arctic Thunder lurking, but Aleezdancer’s previous success at this venue and return to form suggest he has the credentials to go in again. If he’s allowed a similar soft lead, he could be hard to peg back.

16:10 Ascot – Calandagan

Gram Dodd; Senior Tipster at BettingTips4You
Rationale:
Calandagan might not be the most straightforward horse to follow, but he certainly has the class to win this. Often cruising into contention with style, it’s what happens in the final furlong that holds the key. At Epsom, in the Coronation Cup, he looked poised to strike before being denied by a determined Jan Brueghel. But the true boost to his credentials came after, when he produced a dominant display to take the Group 1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud, proving his ability to finish a race off in high-grade company.

He returns to Ascot, where he ran out an easy winner of the King Edward VII Stakes last year, and the familiar course could make all the difference. His jockey, Mickael Barzalona, knows him better now and will be well aware that timing the challenge is critical. With a small field likely to make this a tactical affair, his turn of foot could be invaluable. If the French gelding is delivered at the right moment, he has the speed and class to outkick this field. With market support already building, he looks set to justify favouritism in what appears a winnable renewal. break through in style on Friday.
