Juventus to Win to Nil

Reasoning
Juventus begin their Serie A campaign at home to Parma, and this feels like the perfect stage to make a strong early statement. With Jonathan David debuting and Parma missing key forwards, Juve’s superior depth and experience should prevail. Our best bet of the day is Juventus to Win to Nil.

📈 Three Key Stats Behind Today’s Best Bet

  • Plzen had 23 shots to Servette’s 7 in the first leg, and an xG almost six times higher.
  • Servette are missing two key midfielders in Fomba and Douline, weakening their core.
  • Plzen knocked Servette out in 2023-24 after two clean sheets and a penalty shootout triumph.

Rationale:

Viktoria Plzen may have left the Doosan Arena last week trailing 1-0, but their performance was anything but poor. In fact, the Czech outfit were extremely dominant for large stretches of the first leg, producing 23 attempts on goal and registering an expected goals (xG) tally of 2.00, compared to Servette’s modest 0.34. The only thing missing was their finishing.

That shot disparity reflects just how much control Miroslav Koubek’s side had, and they will travel to Geneva on Wednesday confident they can put things right. Plzen’s recent history in Europe offers plenty of encouragement—they reached the Europa League Round of 16 last season, and were quarter-finalists in the Conference League the year before. This is a squad seasoned in knockout football, and they’ve shown they rarely falter in two-legged ties.

Meanwhile, Servette are a capable side, but far from invincible. They’ve lost key players through injury in recent weeks, including Lamine Fomba and David Douline, two regular starters in midfield. Their squad lacks the same level of depth and European experience as their Czech counterparts. Even their most notable recent European campaign—when they reached the last 16 of the Conference League in 2023-24—ended with elimination by Plzen, after two goalless draws and a penalty shootout.

What’s more, Servette’s manager Thomas Häberli has often adopted a conservative approach in high-stakes games, which may backfire if Plzen get the first goal. If the visitors can replicate their first-leg performance with even a fraction more efficiency in front of goal, they should be able to turn the tie around.

The likes of Rafiu Durosinmi, who leads the line with power and pace, and midfielder Tomas Ladra, who already has two assists to his name this season, are more than capable of unlocking a depleted Servette midfield. With Lukas Hejda and Cheick Soumaré unavailable for Plzen, their back line may require reshuffling, but their depth in attack remains the standout quality.

Given the context of the tie, Plzen are unlikely to sit back. They have no choice but to push forward, and that might suit them even more. With the Swiss side now trying to protect their slim lead, the opportunity for Plzen to dominate again and capitalise on mistakes seems high.

The market has arguably overreacted to the first-leg result. Plzen were favourites going into the first tie for good reason. And though the scoreboard didn’t go their way, the performance metrics suggest they are still the superior team. This second leg provides them the perfect stage to set the record straight.
