Reasoning
England’s attack clicked into gear against the Dutch, and with qualification still uncertain, Wiegman’s team will go for the jugular again. Wales have conceded seven in two games and look unlikely to contain the front line of Russo, James and Hemp. A three-goal margin looks a very achievable outcome here.

🧮 Quickfire Stats

  • England have scored 26 goals in their last seven matches.
  • Wales have failed to win any of their last eight games.
  • The Lionesses beat the Netherlands 4-0 in their most recent fixture.
Rationale:

England Women enter this fixture knowing a victory will send them through to the quarter-finals of Euro 2025. The circumstances are clear — beat Wales, and progress. But for Sarina Wiegman’s side, it’s not just about qualifying. After a statement win over the Netherlands, they’ll be aiming to finish the group strongly and with authority.

The Lionesses were ruthless against the Dutch in midweek, sweeping them aside with a 4-0 triumph that reaffirmed their quality in front of goal. Alessia Russo was at the heart of everything, contributing three assists, while Lauren James sparkled with a brace. This was a response fuelled by frustration after the narrow defeat to France — and a glimpse of the standard England are capable of hitting when the pressure is on.

Wales, on the other hand, have found the step up to tournament football a difficult leap. Their debut Euros campaign has brought back-to-back defeats, conceding seven goals in the process. Although Jess Fishlock made history with Wales’ first-ever goal at a major tournament against France, they still shipped four in that game and struggled to keep their defensive structure intact for long periods.

There’s no disguising the gap in class between the two sides. England have depth, tournament experience, and attacking weapons in every position. Wales are short on belief, low on momentum, and seemingly clinging to faint mathematical hope. For them to cause an upset here would require a complete collapse from the reigning champions — which simply doesn’t feel realistic.

Expect Wiegman’s side to approach this with the same intensity they showed against the Netherlands. With progression on the line and a chance to send a message to future opponents, England are more than capable of covering a -2 handicap — especially with Russo, James and Hemp in top form.

Best Bet: England Women -2 Handicap (England to win by 3 or more goals)
