This Nations League tie is delicately poised, but the way the first leg unfolded offered a few telling signs. Denmark may have only grabbed a 1-0 win, but they bossed the key moments. They had more shots, more efforts on target, and—let’s face it—should’ve put the game out of reach before the 90 minutes were up. Christian Eriksen’s missed penalty spared Portugal some blushes, but Denmark’s tactical setup unsettled them far more than expected.
Portugal, though, are a different beast at home. Playing in front of their own supporters, with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes and Pedro Neto keen to make amends, expect a much more aggressive performance. There’s too much firepower in this side to imagine they’ll go scoreless two matches in a row, especially considering their strong record on home turf.
But here’s the kicker: Portugal’s defence isn’t exactly watertight either. Ruben Dias and Antonio Silva were shaky in the first leg, and goalkeeper Diogo Costa had his hands full. With Rasmus Hojlund likely to start for Denmark this time after scoring off the bench, the visitors have every reason to believe they can find the net again. Jesper Lindstrom and Isaksen provide width and pace, while Eriksen can still pull the strings in tight spaces.
This is not a Denmark side that will park the bus for 90 minutes. They’ll look to break forward quickly and exploit any gaps. The momentum from the first leg is in their favour, but Portugal’s attacking depth means a goal is almost inevitable. The result? Both nets should be rippling.
