Armin Gigovic’s early goal in Bucharest ended a winless run stretching back 12 matches, signalling that perhaps this young side, led by veteran striker Edin Džeko, are turning a corner.
The Bosnians were dreadful across their Euro 2024 campaign and suffered a disastrous Nations League spell too, conceding heavily and failing to find rhythm. However, the win in Romania offers a clean slate — particularly with fresh faces like Amar Memic energising the side. Cyprus, although victorious against San Marino, continue to struggle outside their borders and haven’t secured a competitive away win in over five years. Defensively fragile and often overwhelmed against stronger opposition, the visitors will find Bosnia a step up in class.
With Džeko’s leadership and the injection of youthful energy under new management, Bosnia should be too strong at home. Cyprus, despite a new manager and recent morale-boosting win, have done little in recent years to inspire confidence on the road.
