Rationale:
Monday night in La Liga brings a tightly poised battle at the Estadio Ramon, as Sevilla look to put a poor 2024-25 campaign behind them by earning their first points of the new season. While their 3-2 loss at San Mamés may seem like a continuation of last season’s struggles, there were notable improvements, particularly in attack. Despite trailing by two goals early on, Sevilla clawed their way back to 2-2, only to concede late on. Their resilience and intent to attack under new coach Matías Almeyda suggests this is a very different side.
Dodi Lukebakio – who struck 11 league goals last season – already has one to his name in 2025-26 and looked sharp again. He will be key against a Getafe side that kept a clean sheet in their opener, but still conceded chances. Akor Adams should support him well in the final third.
Getafe, under the seasoned leadership of José Bordalás, began with an impressive 2-0 win over Celta Vigo, with Adrian Liso and Christantus Uche both on the scoresheet. Their young attack, reinforced by talents like Davinchi and Real Madrid loanee Mario Martín, offers flair and unpredictability. Yet, defensively they remain fragile when pressed by quality opposition, and Sevilla’s home advantage will count.
Neither side appears particularly secure at the back. Sevilla conceded three against Bilbao, while Getafe’s 13th-place finish last season reflects a team that regularly conceded under pressure. Historically, meetings between these two are often tight, but both teams have attacking players in form and vulnerabilities in defence.
