Rationale:
Friday night’s meeting at Mestalla offers plenty of intrigue, with Valencia desperate to secure their first win of the campaign and Getafe arriving in buoyant mood after two victories from two. On paper, it looks like a tight contest, but there is a strong case for goals at both ends.
Carlos Corberán’s Valencia have endured a sluggish start, managing only a draw against Real Sociedad before losing to Osasuna. While their points tally is underwhelming, their attacking shape still produces chances, particularly through Arnaut Danjuma and Diego López. Los Che also have an impressive home record against Getafe, unbeaten since 2018, and last season they brushed their visitors aside 3-0 in this very fixture.
Getafe, however, have begun brightly under José Bordalás, with victories over Celta Vigo and Sevilla. They have been criticised in the past for being cautious, but the arrival of fresh attackers like Davinchi and the emergence of Adrian Liso – who struck twice last week – has added variety. Christantus Uche remains a genuine threat, while Borja Mayoral offers further presence up front.
While Getafe rarely run riot, they now look sharper in attack than in previous seasons. Yet their defence remains vulnerable when pressed high, and Valencia at home are unlikely to let them settle. With Los Che missing captain José Gayà through suspension, they could also be exposed down the flanks.
This feels like the sort of encounter where both sides find the net, but Valencia’s track record at Mestalla and historical dominance over Getafe suggest they should just edge matters. The best value lies in combining a home win with both teams to score.
