1. Dundee United vs UNA Strassen

John Pentin; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:

Dundee United kick off their new campaign in the Europa Conference League with plenty to prove. Following a late-season slump and an underwhelming set of pre-season friendlies, their defence still looks unsettled. Missing captain Ross Graham due to injury and without key forward Sam Dalby, they’ll lean on fresh arrivals like Zac Sapsford and the creativity of Trapanovski.

While they face opponents in UNA Strassen who are widely viewed as underdogs, it’s worth noting that the Luxembourg side have added depth with several summer signings and are unlikely to sit back. Although Strassen failed to win any of their friendlies, they showed enough attacking cohesion to suggest they could threaten a Dundee United side still finding rhythm.

The Terrors have scored in six of their last seven outings, and despite a clear quality edge, their defence remains leaky. With both teams expected to push for early goals in the first leg, backing BTTS looks the logical approach.

2. Anderlecht vs Hacken

Wolfgang Shotten; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:

This Europa League tie pits Belgian giants Anderlecht against a Hacken side already deep into their competitive season. Anderlecht have looked tidy in pre-season, but friendly matches rarely provide the intensity of true match play. Without the rhythm of weekly fixtures, Besnik Hasi’s men may start slowly.

Hacken, by contrast, are 16 matches into the Allsvenskan season and arrive in Brussels unbeaten in five across all competitions. Their sharpness was evident in their last round against Spartak Trnava, where they scored three over two legs and looked dangerous on the counter.

Anderlecht boast attacking firepower through Kasper Dolberg and Keisuke Goto, who have been prolific in the build-up, but they haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last four fixtures. With Hacken’s Samuel Holm and Lindberg in form and the visitors pushing for a vital away goal, both nets should bulge at Lotto Park.

3. Besiktas vs Shakhtar Donetsk

Steve Harrington; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:

Besiktas host Shakhtar in what promises to be a tight and tactical encounter. While the Turkish side are expected to dominate possession at home, they’ve looked blunt going forward in pre-season, netting just three goals across four warm-up matches. With new signing Tammy Abraham likely to need time to settle and key winger Oxlade-Chamberlain injured, their attacking output could be limited.

Shakhtar, for their part, have breezed past weaker opposition in the first qualifying round but now face a side that will test them more defensively. Arda Turan’s men were clinical against Ilves, yet their away performances against top-tier opposition in recent European outings have seen them draw blanks.

This clash brings together two teams in transition and feeling the weight of early competitive pressure. Steve Harrington believes a cautious approach and lack of cutting edge could see one or even both sides struggle to find the net.

4. Celje vs AEK Larnaca

Tyler Morris; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:

Celje are riding the high of their European run last season and have begun this campaign with a flurry of goals, scoring six in two continental matches and edging out Sabah Baku in a thriller. Backed by home support and the confidence of beating domestic rivals Maribor, they’ll look to maintain their scoring momentum against an experienced AEK Larnaca outfit.

AEK, however, are no strangers to European competition and will be eager to correct their recent failings in the qualifying rounds. With a dramatic shootout win over Partizan behind them, the Cypriots enter with resilience and attacking threats in the shape of Angielski and Chacon.

Neither team has shown much defensive solidity, with both conceding multiple times in recent outings. Tyler Morris notes that with Celje’s attacking intensity and AEK’s experience, the recipe is right for both to get on the scoresheet.

5. NK Varazdin vs Santa Clara

Linus Bergström; Sports journalist at BettingTips4You
Rationale:

Varazdin may be newcomers to European competition, but their attacking set-up and summer additions suggest they’re not just here to make up the numbers. Striker Ivan Mamut, signed during the off-season, has already found the net twice in pre-season and will lead the line with purpose in this home leg.

Santa Clara, on the other hand, are in fine form. The Azorean side ended last season with an unbeaten streak and have continued to show defensive resilience and an eye for goal in recent friendlies. Wendell leads their line, while Henrique Pereira provides width and creativity.

Varazdin’s recent home record includes plenty of draws, but they’ve scored in five of their last six at Stadion Varteks. Linus Bergström expects both teams to attack with confidence, and given the lack of pressure to defend deeply in a two-legged affair, BTTS makes strong betting sense.
