Reasoning
This builder blends goal expectation with individual shot markets. Sunderland’s lively attack and Villa’s need for points suggest both sides will score, while the finishing ability of Mayenda, Isidor, McGinn and Watkins should generate at least one on-target attempt each, providing balanced coverage across both teams’ attacking threats.

Both Teams to Score

Despite Sunderland’s strong start, defensive vulnerabilities have been visible across their early fixtures. Palace could easily have found the net in the recent 0-0 draw, only wasting opportunities due to errant finishing. The hosts have conceded three times in five league outings, but opponents have often created chances with relative ease. Sunderland’s backline, while disciplined, is still adapting to Premier League tempo.

Villa, though struggling for victories, have enough forward talent to trouble most opponents. Ollie Watkins continues to lead the line, and with Harvey Elliott and Evann Guessand potentially coming into the attack, Emery’s men should ask questions of the Black Cats’ defence. At the same time, Sunderland’s attacking trio of Wilson Isidor, Chemsdine Talbi and Simon Adingra have shown sharpness in home matches, netting five goals this term. Both sides carry flaws at the back but potential in the final third, making a goal apiece a strong possibility.

Eliezer Mayenda – 1+ Shot on Target

Sunderland may not be the most prolific team in terms of shot output, averaging just over two attempts on target per match, but Mayenda offers directness and energy when given the opportunity. His involvement is often impactful, even from the bench, and he is keen to test goalkeepers whenever he finds space.

Facing an Aston Villa side that have allowed opponents multiple high-quality openings already this campaign, Mayenda should fancy his chances of registering at least one accurate effort. Villa’s defensive organisation has been undermined by injuries in midfield, with Amadou Onana and Youri Tielemans absent, leaving the protection in front of the back four less secure. Should Mayenda be introduced, his pace and willingness to shoot could capitalise on those gaps.

Wilson Isidor – 1+ Shot on Target

Isidor is expected to spearhead Sunderland’s frontline, and his movement is central to how the Black Cats approach attacks. Flanked by Adingra and Talbi, he benefits from service into dangerous areas, while his ability to find space between centre-backs makes him a constant threat. He has already proven he can deliver in the Premier League, and the expectation will be for him to test Emiliano Martinez at least once.

Villa’s away form is especially poor, with defeats in three of their last four league trips dating back to last season, conceding goals in each. That record underlines why their rearguard is often exposed, leaving forwards like Isidor well placed to take advantage. Even a single clear opportunity is likely enough for the Frenchman to meet this requirement.

John McGinn – 1+ Shot on Target

McGinn provides an important link between Villa’s midfield and attacking line, often driving forward when Emery’s side need urgency. He is not afraid to take responsibility from range, as shown throughout previous seasons, and his shooting threat remains a hallmark of his game. In a match where Sunderland will look to press high, gaps may open for midfield runners, giving McGinn the chance to test goalkeeper Roefs.

With Villa often struggling to break teams down through intricate play, McGinn’s willingness to strike from outside the area becomes even more valuable. Sunderland have been known to concede space around the box, and that presents opportunities for a midfielder with his shooting instincts. A single effort on target seems a realistic expectation here.

Ollie Watkins – 1+ Shot on Target

Watkins remains Villa’s most reliable outlet in attack, despite the team’s lack of wins. His work rate, movement into the channels and instinctive finishing keep him at the centre of their goal threat. Even in matches where Villa have been subdued, Watkins has found ways to manufacture chances.

Given Sunderland’s defence has not faced many strikers of Watkins’ calibre so far this season, this encounter will test their organisation. Watkins’ aerial ability, combined with sharp runs in behind, should allow him to force at least one save from the Sunderland goalkeeper. He continues to be the focal point of Villa’s offensive structure, making this selection a sensible inclusion in the builder.vulnerabilities and the likelihood of Liverpool creating multiple clear opportunities, backing Ekitike to work Pickford at least twice looks realistic.
