Selection 1: Liverpool to Win

There’s little doubt that Liverpool, playing in front of their home crowd on opening night, will be overwhelming favourites here. Arne Slot’s team might have stumbled in the Community Shield, but their dominance at Anfield remains intact. The Reds are unbeaten in their last 17 home games in the league, a run that includes 14 wins and stretches back to a surprise defeat against Nottingham Forest nearly a year ago.

Even more convincing is Bournemouth’s dreadful away record in this fixture. The Cherries have lost six successive league visits to Anfield, being outscored 23-2 in that time. Last season’s 9-0 and 3-1 thumpings serve as recent reminders of the gulf in class. Andoni Iraola’s side are in transition after losing several key defenders and failing to win any of their final four pre-season matches.

Slot’s Liverpool may still be refining their backline, but their attack remains ferocious, and they rarely slip up on opening day. In fact, Liverpool haven’t lost their first league game of the season since 2012.

Selection 2: Mohamed Salah – 2+ Shots on Target

Salah continues to be Liverpool’s most consistent and threatening outlet in attack. With Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz now supporting him, the Egyptian should find himself with even more room to operate. Salah averaged over 1.3 shots on target per game last season and remains on penalty duty.

His desire to make an early statement after Liverpool’s Community Shield disappointment – a match in which he was relatively quiet – adds extra motivation. Against a backline that has seen four departures and a new goalkeeper in Djordje Petrovic trying to settle, Salah is likely to test the target multiple times, as he’s done in many previous meetings with Bournemouth.

It’s worth noting that in the 9-0 win over the Cherries in 2022, Salah was one of the only starters not to score – something he’ll no doubt want to correct.

Reasoning
Liverpool open their title defence at Anfield against a depleted Bournemouth side. With Salah and Wirtz expected to be central to Arne Slot’s attacking setup, and both involved in the physical and creative side of play, this 18/1 Bet Builder covers multiple markets and builds on clear tactical and statistical logic.
Selection 4: Florian Wirtz – To Commit 1+ Fouls

Although Wirtz is primarily known for his technical skill and flair, he is not afraid to get stuck in when required. Slot’s tactical demands include high pressing and intense ball recoveries – especially from attacking midfielders. This increased defensive involvement will likely see Wirtz occasionally mistiming a tackle or tracking back into congested areas.

Against Bournemouth’s ball carriers such as Semenyo or Tavernier, who enjoy driving forward, Wirtz could easily be forced into fouls when trying to regain possession in midfield transitions. In the Bundesliga, he regularly committed over one foul per 90 minutes last season – a pattern that looks likely to continue as he adjusts to the Premier League’s pace and physicality.

Selection 5: Mohamed Salah – To Commit 1+ Fouls

Salah might not be the first player you think of in the fouls market, but his competitive nature and frustration when closed down or man-marked make him a quiet threat in this market. He often tracks back or presses aggressively in advanced areas and, in games where Liverpool dominate possession, he tends to be heavily involved across all phases.

Bournemouth’s full-backs – particularly Truffert and Araujo – will attempt to frustrate Salah with tight marking. When tightly shackled, the Egyptian has a habit of engaging physically, especially when chasing back after losing the ball or when trying to regain it high up the pitch.

In fact, Salah committed at least one foul in 16 of his 38 Premier League appearances last term, and with opening day intensity and crowd energy behind him, he may well be drawn into another on Friday night.
