With momentum firmly on their side, France Women are just one step away from the Women’s European Championship quarter-finals. Having seen off England in their opener, Les Bleues return to action against Wales, who are still searching for their first goal — and point — at a major tournament.
This encounter sets the stage for a one-sided but potentially combative affair, and with that in mind, our Bet Builder focuses on three well-reasoned selections. Together, they form a high-value combination rooted in team dynamics, tactical roles, and current form.
Here’s our Bet Builder pick for France Women vs Wales Women, which has been placed with William Hill:

🇫🇷 France Women to Win
After dismantling England in their tournament opener, France are full of confidence — and it’s easy to see why. They were in control for large spells against the Lionesses, racing into a two-goal lead by half-time with clinical strikes from Katoto and Baltimore. That victory extended their winning streak to nine consecutive matches, a run that’s included victories over some of Europe’s strongest teams.
France are well-drilled under Laurent Bonadei, boasting pace and technique across all areas of the pitch. Katoto is chasing her third goal in as many games, Cascarino and Baltimore add direct threat on the flanks, and their midfield trio offers control and creativity in equal measure.
By contrast, Wales arrive here on the back of a bruising 3-0 defeat to the Netherlands — a match where they barely laid a glove on their opponents. They have now failed to win any of their last seven fixtures, and have scored just three goals in that period. For a side new to this level, facing a France team in full flow is a daunting task.
With the French needing a win to secure progression and Wales needing a miracle to stay in the tournament, the gulf in quality is likely to show once again.

🟨 Selma Bacha to Be Carded
Selma Bacha is one of France’s most tenacious and emotionally driven players — qualities that can both elevate and endanger her side. Operating on the left side of defence, Bacha is tasked with aggressive pressing, ball recovery and handling rapid transitions — all responsibilities that regularly bring her into high-risk challenges.
With Jess Fishlock and Ella Powell likely to operate down her flank, Bacha could find herself frequently drawn into physical duels. Fishlock in particular is a savvy veteran who knows how to draw fouls and disrupt rhythm. Add to that Wales’ likely use of quick counters and long balls into the channels, and Bacha will be under pressure to cover a lot of ground quickly.
In matches where France dominate possession, as they are expected to here, their full-backs often play higher up the pitch. That aggressive positioning increases the likelihood of late tackles during recoveries — and Bacha is no stranger to a yellow. With the tempo expected to rise as Wales grow desperate, the left-back could easily find herself in the referee’s book.

Reasoning Back France to win, with Selma Bacha and Hayley Ladd to be shown yellow cards in a high-stakes Group A clash. France’s dominance should push Wales into repeated fouls, while Bacha’s aggressive style and defensive positioning make her a strong candidate for a caution. |
🟨 Hayley Ladd to Be Carded
Wales’ defensive midfielder Hayley Ladd is likely to be one of the busiest players on the pitch. Tasked with screening the back four, disrupting France’s rhythm, and containing midfield runners, Ladd will have her hands full with Geyoro and Jean-François operating in front of her.
France’s midfield love to play through central channels, and when they’re not finding Cascarino or Baltimore out wide, they’re darting between the lines through the middle. That means Ladd will be making repeated tackles, interceptions and last-ditch challenges — the kind of work that brings a significant risk of bookings.
Ladd’s combative nature and willingness to put her body on the line have made her a key figure for Wales, but this game will demand even more of her. If France are dominant early on, as expected, then frustration and fatigue could kick in. When those two combine with a flurry of attacks from the opposition, it’s often a recipe for a yellow card.
She’s also picked up cautions in similar high-intensity matches in the past, and with so much riding on the result, another one could be on the cards here.
