1. Both Teams to Score
There’s no denying that goals look likely in this match. Middlesbrough have managed to find the net in five of their last eight games away from home, usually notching a single strike in tight contests. Blackburn, despite a rough patch under new boss Valérien Ismaël, are still capable of finding a route to goal in front of their own fans, with five of their last six home games seeing them score.
Neither defence offers much assurance. Rovers have now gone six consecutive matches without shutting out the opposition, often looking disorganised when faced with any kind of pressure. Meanwhile, Boro’s backline is patchwork at best – key defenders such as Dael Fry and George Edmundson are sidelined, and both goalkeepers are unavailable, which further weakens their stability at the back.
Boro’s most recent win showed they’ve still got firepower, with goals from Kelechi Iheanacho and Neto Borges sealing the comeback. Blackburn are severely depleted due to injuries but continue to press forward, with Dolan and Hedges trying to spark life into their attack. Given the lack of defensive confidence from both camps, goals at each end seem the most sensible expectation.

2. Kelechi Iheanacho to Score Anytime
The Nigerian striker has taken a bit of time to get going since his move to the Riverside, but there were signs of a turnaround in his most recent outing. Iheanacho opened his Boro account against Oxford with a well-taken goal, and it could be the confidence boost he needed.
A player with Premier League and international pedigree, Iheanacho has the composure and positional sense to capitalise against vulnerable defences – and Blackburn certainly fall into that category at the moment. Their centre-backs have been all over the place recently, and the lack of a settled defensive line has left them exposed time and again.
With Middlesbrough creating chances and looking to build on their recent attacking momentum, Iheanacho is likely to be in the right areas to profit. If he starts, his sharpness around the box and ability to strike from half-chances makes him a real contender to find the net.

Lyon vs Manchester United Ultimate Bet Builder Tip | |
45/1 - odds when tipped | |
Reasoning With both Lyon and United prone to defensive lapses and stacked with attacking talent, goals are a strong likelihood. Garnacho’s energy and delivery down the flank could produce chances, Fernandes is always a goal threat, and Ugarte’s card record speaks for itself. A well-balanced Bet Builder for Thursday night. |
3. Yuri Ribeiro to Be Shown a Card
Although Yuri Ribeiro hasn’t been cautioned in his brief spell with Blackburn so far, his previous record indicates he isn’t shy when it comes to a challenge. In Portugal’s top division, the full-back received two bookings in just eight appearances before making the move to England.
Since joining Rovers, he’s committed fouls in each of his last three matches – and that rising trend suggests he’s not far off seeing yellow. This match is likely to be fast-paced and emotionally charged, especially given both sides’ desperation for points. Ribeiro will have his hands full trying to contain Boro’s wide players and could be drawn into risky tackles in dangerous areas.
As the game opens up and tensions rise, don’t be surprised if the referee’s patience runs out. Ribeiro’s aggressive defending and track record of bookings in tighter matches make him a smart pick for this market.
4. Over 8.5 Total Corners
When it comes to corners, both teams contribute to high counts. Blackburn average 5.69 corners per home game in the Championship, frequently pushing forward and whipping balls into the box, especially when chasing a result. Their offensive width and willingness to take on defenders generate regular set-piece opportunities.
Middlesbrough, on the other hand, concede a lot of corners. They’ve allowed more than five in 10 of their last 13 league games, and their average sits at 6.21 conceded per match this season. It’s a trend that shows they’re often under pressure, especially away from home.
Combined, these two sides are more than capable of crossing the nine-corner threshold. Whether it’s Blackburn pressing for a breakthrough or Boro hitting on the counter and forcing clearances, the ball should be in both penalty areas often enough to see a strong flow of corners from either side.
