Main Bet: Davis Riley
Being a new tournament, we don’t have historical data, but the course is just a mile away from the cost, so the first thing to say is that there isn’t altitude. Greg Norman has designed Vidanta Vallarta course, there is a lot of water in play, and a strong emphasis has to be placed on strong driving. Looking at Ball-Striking stats, we find that Davis Riley is ranking 38th and looks the best proposition for this week at this high price. He did very well at the Valspar Championship in March when he finished second at the end of excellent performance. In last week’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans, Riley, who was in the team with Will Zalatoris, finished tie for fourth, confirming his good period of form. Earlier this season, he also recorded a tied seventh at the Bermuda Championship and tied 20th at the Sony Open. He is doing pretty well near the coast and capable of performing with the wind, so he looks like a valuable option for this new event.

Each Way Bet: Carlos Ortiz
Local Carlos Ortiz looks like an interesting proposition for our each-way punt. If we just look at his form, he hasn’t done wonders recently as he has missed the last four cuts. Despite that, he had positive Strokes Gaines figures for Off The Tee, Approach and Tee To Green in the Valspar. So, despite the lack of results, his form isn’t too bad, and his performance is likely to improve now that he is back on home Mexican soil. Ortiz finished two times second at Mayakoba (which is another Greg Norman design), with one of these two results that came last November. Ortiz is an ambassador to Vidanta Resorts, so surely knows well this course, and we expect him to be very motivated. Backing him to be in contention looks like a great each-way punt at this price.
